Publisher's Summary

Billy Winston’s family is going to see him happy and in love, if it’s the last thing they do.

No one deserves a "happily ever after" quite as much as the second oldest Winston brother and his lady love Claire McClure (a.k.a. Scarlet St. Claire). Cruelty and circumstance tore them apart almost 20 years ago. Secrecy and bitterness kept them separated.

But do you know who's tired of their separation and stubbornness? Everyone. Especially Billy Winston’s family. And now, they're going to do something about it.

Well-meaning interference means the star-crossed lovers can’t stop tripping over each other in the hills of Tuscany, the catacombs of Rome, and the waterways of Venice. Billy and Claire find themselves thrown together and at the mercy of the Winston siblings’ shenanigans.

But will their forced proximity bring them together or push them even further apart?

This second-chance romance brings back the entire Winston gang playing cupid in one last story of love, hijinks, and family collusion.

Beard Necessities is a full-length contemporary romantic comedy, and can be listened to as a stand-alone, but it’s probably best to listen to it after the previous books in the Winston Brothers series.

A whole lot of hilarious mayhem

To start this review I need to start where it all begins. The Winston Brothers book 1, Truth or Beard. Once you read this you’ll not stop until you end the journey on Beard Necessities. The Winston brothers will all charm and capture you into their world of hilarious high jinx and family love and commitment. You’ll no doubt fall in love with each and every member of this special family but don’t let Cletus know that you love them all equally and that his suggested enormous thick tasty sausage should tip the scales his way. Penny Reid, can tell a tale like no other and this series will have you wanting more and lucky for us you’ll find plenty more options to choose from with her other published books. The audio versions of all books in the series are fantastic and the narrators (Chris Brinkley, Joy Nash, Chloe Miller, Angela Dawe, have certainly played a tremendous part in the visual aspects when listening. Now if you haven’t ready taken the first step into the world of the Winston Brothers, well there’s no time like the present to do so.

Thank GOD!!

I have soooo loved this series! Those Winston boys have captured (and melted) my heart since their introduction in the 'Knitting in the City' series. But Billy! Billy! I just have no words! He's at a whole different level. So tragic... so honourable... so protective & loving... so goddam amazing. He stole my heart from the beginning (my hubby should be worried!!). Thank God he finally had his happy ending... and Claire as well. One couldn't happen without the other after all. Thank you, Penny! 🥰

The Winston Brothers Book 7

Loved this book. Billy and Scarlet finally got their story. I loved the ups and downs just like real life and how the Winston crew finished up. Great finish for the series.

Loved it more than Cletus loves his sausage.

I second all the good reviews of this final book and of the entire series. So satisfying and, while I am genuinely sad it’s over, I’m also looking forward to listening to all the books again in the future. This is a series that will stay funny and fantastic for years to come. Now to go nurse my book hangover...somehow.

Big Disappointment

I disliked too many things about this book to list. I did not find any humor in all the stunts that the family pulled against Billy and Scarlet. DNF

***SPOILER ALERT*** This book was amazing

So grateful that Penny didn't make us work too hard/worry too much throughout this book for the happy ending Billy and Scarlette so richly deserved. Book six was heartbreaking and it was tough waiting for this one to be released, but it was so worth the wait. I loved the epilogue most of all because we get a glimpse into the lives of all the siblings. In her author's note Penny talks about missing having the Winston boys in her life and I get that! These characters feel like family. Chris and Joy brought these stories to life for me - they are incredible narrators!

The family is content.

We were introduced to the backstory between Billy and Scarlet's and this book gave us the conclusion to it all. Billy is always putting others needs before his own. He has done things to please others around him and I was glad that he was forced to take care of himself in this book. Scarlet is stubborn and does not think that her and Billy are in the cards for her. I thought that this story was sweet. It did second chance romance justice! There was the humor you expect with a Winston book but there was also the perfect amount of emotions and steam. Sad to see the series be done but well done Penny!

Beautifully entertaining, funny, sad, sobering and full of life.

So much kept Billy and Scarlet (Clair) apart. Life, duty and circumstance in good and bad ways can twist the roads of life, but it’s Love, pure Love that can reconcile. When you’ve sacrificed everything, you deserve the best, herein shows that best. Love the Winston’s.

Some Things are Worth the Wait

I have adored the character of Billy from the get-go. To me, he has been a strong, stabilizing, fatherly force for the Winstons throughout their saga. He always seemed to have his act together, which was no mean feat since he basically pulled himself up by his bootstraps. You could cut him a bit of slack for not seeming to be as much fun as the rest of the brothers. He carries the weight of the Winston World around on his shoulders. Now that I've learned his story, his strength is even more impressive. This man is Atlas. The character of Clare has been a challenging one throughout. She's had a crazy life--and we didn't even know the half of it. There were times when I wanted to shake her and times I couldn't believe what she'd endured. Billy, good heavens, that man. What he did. What he went through. The secrets he kept. His loyalty, and love are boundless. But they sure don't seem to have been working in his favor when it comes to love. Penny Reid took two of the most broken yet still societally functional characters and made the singular most beautiful American Love Story out of their messy lives.

Great conclusion to a great series

This series made me laugh, cry, huff with anger, and every emotion in between. This particular story is at times bitter sweet, but it’s a lovely and fitting story for the two main characters. The author also wrote a great epilogue. The very last three minutes of reading gave me new quotes to put around my house!

Love this end to the Winston brother series

I loved this series overall and really enjoyed Billy’s story. I was a bit confused in the prior story about Billy’s love and they finally answered the story here. I loved the characters, Claire and Billy and laughed at the antics of the other Winston brethren. The epilogue made me teary and I enjoyed how Penny Reid tied up the loose ends with everything associated with their father and motorcycle club. The narrators for the audiobook are great, as they have been through the series. I find no fault with the way Chris Brinkley drawls and Joy Nash plays all the characters wonderfully. I will be looking for more books by these narrators.
