Publisher's Summary

They’re back!

When a simple "find and fetch" case throws Private Investigator Twig Starfig and newly minted wizard Quinn Broomsparkle into the middle of an EBI murder investigation, it’s just another day in the Elder Realm.

If murder were Twig’s only problem, he’d be the luckiest half-dragon in the land. Murder he can handle. Fulfilling his promise to his scheming, power-hungry father to run for a seat on Lighthelm’s city council? Meh, he’d rather face a demon with a toothache.

On top of their case going sideways and Twig running for a council seat he really doesn’t want, Twig and Quinn are forced to face some unpleasant realities about their budding romance while still learning how to handle the wizard-familiar bond they now share. Throw in a red fury with abysmal taste in boyfriends, a ghost pirate-parrot who drinks too much, a murderer who will stop at nothing to get what they want, and a host of new friends and enemies, and you’ve got a situation where no one is safe and everyone is fairy game.

This audiobook is part of a series but can be litsened to as a stand-alone.

👍

Great sequel. Among the action, humour and politics, there were some great relationship issues worked out. Twig and Quinn are wonderful together - even when they fought, they showed their love for the other. Game me some warm fuzzies.
Loved it and am looking forward to the 3rd book coming out on audio soon because the narrator is so perfect for the story.
A big recommendation to anyone who enjoys fantasy with mystery and romance elements that's also really funny.

LOVED IT! MORE FUN THAN BOOK #1

Clever world building, great narration, and a salute to vintage Star Trek (I can't wait to learn more about Cookie and her tribe of tribbles!) .... what's not to like?!? On to Book #3!

Good but a couple issues,

I'm really really enjoying this series. It's funny, endearing, some action and mysteries all in one book. I have some slight spoilers, most of which would only be if you haven't read book 1.

But I have a couple issues, mostly dubious consent violations and Twig telling Quinn it's ok, but mentally screaming it isn't.
1)The control that Quinn exerts over Twig. I find it frustrating and a little disturbing that a previous indentured sex servant wouldn't be seriously upset at that he has complete control over his mate, and he uses it. Most of the time when Twig is in peril but not always. I feel like after the very short, oh I'm not ok with having power over you, it's not addressed by Quinn at all and Twig is mentally having a lot of issues with it since he is a very dominant person. The bond makes his Dragon not care but he does, and consent is everything to me.
2)The scene in the Incubus Bar was very disturbing, I am glad that Quinn saw it for what it was, but for the author to have Twig say it was OK, is NOT ok. I hope these issues get discussed and fixed because Twig at this moment has zero control and his consent isn't given and can't really be given since it's a bond with a familiar.
3)Quinns issues with mating, because it will then give Twig more or some control over Quinn is frustrating because Quinn has control over Twig, and since he KNOWS how that feels and not wanting to give up his control over Twig bothers me. I know there are other reasons why he didn't want to mate bond but this reason was upsetting. He has become the Master with dubious consent.
4)Quinn hiding how he turns their mental connection off when Twig is in human form, seriously? He won't allow Twig to have his own thoughts if he doesn't want to allow it, and Twig thinking about how frustrating and unfair it is that he won't teach Twig how to do it, but Twig saying nothing because of the familiar bond basically forces him to allow Quinn to do what ever he wants and for Twig to agree even when he doesn't.

Twig goes back and forth in both books about submitting and dominating and his desire to do both, but Quinn never let's him do the dominating even though Twig needs it. While consent is needed for that, Quinn dominates Twig with consent that isn't freely given, and we kjow it isn't because Twig is CONSTANTLY thinking about how he wants to dominate sometimes due to his dragon. Over and over and over he submits to Quinn all the while hating that he is doing it, and he rarely says anything about not wanting it. It's sad, especially since Quinn knows exactly how that feels.

BUT in general I think they are a good couple and are fairly well matched. The jobs they get and the creatures/people they collect along the way is fun to hear about. The entire book isn't about the situations above but enough that I almost stopped listening, mostly just during the Incubus Bar scene and at least Quinn understood how wrong the situation was.

Well Darn

I enjoyed the first book in this series, I excitedly jumped into this book with high expectations. Boudreaux was excellent as always, and certainly enjoyed the humor. I had to go back a chapter or two because my mind drifted, and I was lost. I still want to read book 3 because this book didn’t wrap up any of the (too) many story lines. I do hope #3 is the charm

loved it.

I was so happy that this week we picked Meghan Maslow. I got to listen to her first book “By Fairy Means or Foul” a few weeks ago Narrated by Greg Boudreaux and I loved it and now I got to listen to the second book in the series “Be Fairy Game” also Narrated by Greg. I'm still laughing my ass off. It was so fun and made my week. The menagerie of friends are back with a few new ones thrown in. I thought Cookie was so sweet and I wanted one of the little furballs for myself. You get to see more in what makes Twig and Quinn tick. I like how things are turned around in this world, how a big badass demon is a big softy and little cut things have big teeth. I can't wait to get the third book to listen to. But till then I need to do next week's homework.

Absolutely wonderful

This takes a turn from the high comedy of the first book into a more meaty plot line and series of adventures as Twig and Quinn grow closer and make mistakes with each other, and learn more of what their family really means. I am purely delighted about it and running for the third book.

Great sequel, the plot thickens!

I loved this, the secund book in the Starfig Investigations series. The central plot was engaging and the relationship between the main characters is developing nicely with plenty of issues to be resolved in the future. The potential relationships that will develop for the side characters are exciting too.
Greg Boudreaux does an excellent job with the narration. Good character differentiation with the characters and the emotions are well nuanced.
Can't wait for book 3.
