Publisher's Summary
Three hundred years ago, the settlers on the small Maine island of Sanctuary were betrayed by one of their own, and slaughtered. Now a band of killers has returned to Sanctuary to seek revenge on a young woman and her son, and the only people who stand in their way are a young rookie officer and the island's resident policeman, the troubled giant known as Melancholy Joe Dupree.
But Joe Dupree is no ordinary policeman. He is the guardian of the island's secrets, the repository of its memories. He knows that Sanctuary has been steeped in violence, and that its ghosts will tolerate the shedding of innocent blood no longer. On Sanctuary, the hunters are about to become the hunted.

not a Charlie Parker thriller....missed Louis and Angel....will get Dark Hollow next time. This was a freebie on a credit,....thank you . The narration was very good and persuaded me to read on a fair bit but I will struggle to finish this book...…...bring back Parker and his rogues and their touches of the supernatural. I really like Audible my eyes are not tip-top so many thanks

Where’s Jeff Harding??
I bought this some time ago, and while it’s what you’d expect from John Connolly- a great story, it’s completely ruined by the narrator. Why oh why isn’t it read by Jeff Harding so that it can actually be enjoyed?

This is NOT a Charlie Parker thriller
I must start by saying I bought this book because it says on the "cover" that this is a Charlie Parker thriller. Well, it is not. It's supernatural thats all.
The story is quite good, if you like a ghostly feeling, but I lost a bit because I was waiting for Charlie Parker to get in to action. I think I would have liked it more if I hadn't done that.
But the narrator on the other hand is awful! I have to agree with Jan from Denmark. That in the overall voice the narrator is good but when he tries to make characters he makes them sound like idiots or transvestites. For a long time I thought that the big policeman in the book was a retard, which I later in the book understood he wasn't.

One of the best, but....
This is actually one of the best Connolly books but the narrator ruins the experience. Actually the narrator is quite good in his own voice but when he puts voices to the characters he makes them sound stupid goofy, like evil children and all the woman sounds like sleasy hookers or posh english woman. Not good but the story is great.

Great book, terrible "performance"
This is one of my favourite John Connolly books. Great book, great story that I've read a number of times. While general naration is fine, the voices used by the narrator for the main character Joe and pretty much all the female characters ate terrible, really really terrible.

Surprise
I did enjoy the story, I have read many from the Charlie Parker series. However I felt that some of the voices used by the reader were a little off line. Overall another well researched and well written story
