About this listen

Embark on a gripping adventure with Mark 'Trigger' Tregellas in Backup is Three Hours Away, a true crime memoir chronicling nearly three decades of policing Victoria's remote coastal region. Trigger never knew what each shift would bring–tragedy, laughter, adventure, danger–sometimes all on the same day.

Trigger's personal journey, fuelled by a thirst for adventure and special forces training, led him to the frontline of policing. He faced life-threatening situations and earned commendation for his exceptional and courageous service, recognition that came at a personal cost. Through Trigger's career he sustained severe injuries, including a broken spine, a gunshot wound to the face and PTSD.

Trigger delves into encounters with peril, unexpected twists, and heartbreaking moments, shedding light on the motivations that drive officers to willingly confront the unknown. Despite the physical and mental toll, his story is one of triumph, showcasing a resilient mindset honed through exhaustive training and the overcoming of life's challenges, including a brush with cancer.

Backup is Three Hours Away is a genuine portrayal of policing, from the unpredictable and humorous moments, to heart-wrenching tragedy. Trigger's narrative transcends the typical law enforcement tale, revealing indomitable human spirit and resilience–a powerful and inspirational testament to the highs and lows of a career dedicated to service.

Loved this so much!

If only they could tell stories of accomplished and genuine police in school curriculums, it would probably change society in so many ways.

What an awesome book. So engaging and inspiring.

I could only happen to Trig

Having worked with the author for a number of years together in Victoria Police this book confirms that it could only happen to Trig. Always was a master of the yarn. A great read and demonstrates what it takes to be a remote police officer, community member and how much these roles impact the ones you love the most.

Only in Australia!!

Wonderful life story and window into living in outback Australia. It will have you laughing out loud, listen with great intensity at times through an adventure and shed a tear. The narration was good and the length perfect for a trip there and back over 850km. Loved it

Couldn't put it down.

This was the most common review I received of the paperback and ebook versions of my memoir. Timothy Knightly has done an awesome job reading and his Australian accent stands out. I spent two years writing the script and another year refining it with the publishers. I hope that everyone who listens understands that these stories are true and how a life of service can effect police, their families and all those around them. I hope you enjoy it.

Amazing tales and full of humanity

Fantastic listen. The author has an amazing story to tell within every chapter. Finished it with regret it didn’t go longer. Narrator was excellent too.

Outstanding

I listened to this book after listening to Mark on the podcast Australian True Crime.
I laughed and I cried listening to all the stories. The way it was written and told made me feel like I was right there.
Thank you so much for your service Mark, you are a credit to yourself and the police force

Yarning

listening to this book felt like having a beer with a mate of a mate that you hadn't met before so he was telling all of his stories - funny ones and heartbreaking ones. Well worth a listen and well written although the stories were often brief and if we had of been having an actual beer I could have asked more questions. Thanks Mark very enlightening and surprising how cuppas were an effective policing tool.
