About this listen

Scarpetta is back! In this twenty-fifth in the electrifying, landmark #1 bestselling thriller series chief medical examiner Dr. Kay Scarpetta hunts an ingenious killer who has mastered cutting-edge science for the most nefarious ends.

Forensic pathologist Kay Scarpetta has returned to Virginia as the chief medical examiner. She and her husband Benton are headquartered five miles from the Pentagon, in a post-pandemic world that's been torn apart by civil and political unrest.

Just weeks into the job, Scarpetta is called to investigate a woman's body which has been shockingly displayed on railroad tracks. As Scarpetta follows the trail, it leads unnervingly close to her own neighbourhood...

At the same time, two scientists are found dead in a top-secret laboratory in outer space. Scarpetta is summoned to the White House Situation Room and tasked with finding out what happened. But even as she's working the first crime scene in space from the ground, an apparent serial killer strikes again. And this time, Scarpetta could be in greater danger than ever before...

In this latest novel in her groundbreaking Kay Scarpetta series, Patricia Cornwell captivates readers with the shocking twists, high-wire tension, and forensic detail that she is famous for, proving once again why she's the world's #1 bestselling crime writer.

This is a good story, though not the best of Scarpetta. An annoying tendency to explain technical terms and abbreviations, though that may be a function of audio making it more noticeable. I will not get another with this narrator, not enough distinction between characters and did not fit the main character who is well spoken and polite, with some snark.

Good story but

I have been listening to talking books since Audible started and love Patricia Cornwell, however, do yourselves a favour and listen to a sample before purchasing this one, I didnt, as the previous books have been narrated superbly. Patricia should be ashamed of allowing her legacy to be ruined in this way, it is absolutely outrageous its so bad. I couldnt come close to finishing what was shaping up to be an excellent story. When this narrator attempts Pete Marino in particular or Benton as well, its laughable because she is unable to do male voices or even differentiate between the women, so you have no idea who is speaking, she does not pause between characters, which beomes tedious quickly, its impossible to follow the story. I am amazed this lady is attempting and spectacularly failing with this narration.

I have never encountered a narrator as awful

It’s been a long while in between Scarpetta novels for me and I was excited for my first Scarpetta audible. Sorry to say even sped up I could not focus and enjoy this. The narration just did not fit.

Too slow and boring

Love Patricia Cornwell and love Scarletta novels … but the narrator was terrible … really really hard to listen to …. Had to persevere for the story but very difficult.

Helen … Sydney

Although strained at the start, the pace picks up and delivers a twisty ending. I almost gave up in the first two chapters because the narrator was so clipped and terrible at annunciating different characters. Glad I stuck with it.

Nice follow up story
