  • Summary

  • Matthew Hanson is a forensic phonetician and the best audio profiler in America. He is able to create a psychological and visual profile of people using only tones, noises, dialects and voice colours. Thanks to him, some of the most dangerous criminals are in jail. Blackmailers, hostage-takers, assassins, the critical evidence that brought them to justice - short audio recordings. Hanson is fascinating, charismatic, difficult to see through. And: he is in solitary confinement.

A year ago he brutally murdered a homeless woman. The burden of proof was overwhelming. Hanson himself confessed to the crime and led the police to the corpse. And yet there are questions. Why would one of the brightest police advisers commit such a poorly planned murder? Why does Hanson refuse any defence? And why does he refuse all interviews - even one with the young true crime blogger Julia Abbot, who comes across inconsistencies during her research that could prove his innocence?

Driven by a traumatic incident in her past, Julia is not deterred by Hanson's insistence on his guilt. She decides to conduct her own investigation, which leads her to answers and dangers she never expected.

Unexpected

I enjoyed this story. It kept me wanting to keep listening. The ending was very unexpected and although it's definitely finished, you keep wondering....

weird gap in story between ep 5 and 6

I found it gripping but towards the end it made less sense with a gap in the plot sequence between ep 5 and 6 that seemed to contradict itself and was never addressed, so it was hard to stay immersed after that 🤷

Gripping

Wonderful twisting plot. The characters were well developed & the performances were excellent.
what I need to know is, will there be a sequel?

Interesting but not gripping

I enjoyed it as a book I could listen to that didn't consume me. The plot was good but the twists were foreshadowed too early and it was a little too like "Seven" or "Primal Fear". Still well worth a weekend listen.

Nice story

I really like it, the story was really good I didn't like how the story developed at the end, the unfolding was too quick that I would have liked to get more details.
Anyway the drama and the mystery was always present.

A great " read " with a well finished story.

Too much redundant Foley. Loved the performance otherwise. Great plot that ended well while making me want more.
