Der Schnee lag kalt und weiß auf freiem Felde. Ein Hase und seine Frau suchten Futter. Die Pfoten froren. Es war ein mühsamer Weg, und der Wind pfiff über die Fläche. Die Ausbeutung war kümmerlich. Man musste erst den Schnee fortkratzen, um etwas Essen zu finden. Die Pfoten wurden so leicht wund dabei. Man musste sie dazwischen immer wieder ablecken. Auch war die Frau des Hasens leidend. Ein Bein war ihr zerschossen worden.
