Publisher's Summary

Our heroes have gone their separate ways in an effort to save Trip and unify their fight against the Overseers, who have an evil plot to take over not only this world, but all worlds. Mike asks for and receives help, but not in any way he could have prepared for, as Jack finds himself in the uncomfortable position of filling Otter’s shoes. Can Jack and Mike find a way to destroy the evil that has been unwittingly unleashed or will they succumb like every other civilization the enemy has encountered?

Falling out of love

Are used to love everything Mark wrote. Not so much the last two books I’ve listen to. Mostly seem to be sort of tossed together. Lots of gory fighting scenes not much interesting dialogue and slips in the details. Sort of like when you watch a movie and someone is has a skill and then all of a sudden they don’t have a skill. That’s what happened here. The demon calendar had the skill to shrink, and now he doesn’t at the end of the story when they need him to fit into the helicopter he can’t fit in anymore. Did something happen somewhere that I missed? I don’t know ,I just really feel that I’m sort of getting gypped on this series.

50/50 love/ hate

Not sure who is writing what. I do know the character Jack Walker is a bust. I think they are going for a no nonsense tough stoic ex military badass.. what they deliver is an over descriptive (seriously, 5 chapters to describe the blade going in? mm by mm by mm by mm I feel the blade slide in, another mm and I touch a bone, the bone is hard, another mm ... blah blah blah.. we get you stabbed a dude) , morose sooo friggin high school girl drama morose, long drawn out introspective full of self loathing/pitying diatribe. Dude goes from I have to kill that evil SOB to I am soooo guilty because I killed that evil SOB, But I had to because blah, blah blah to I will do anything to get back to my family no matter who I have to kill to maybe I should just off myself .. why bother going on blah blah.. it all adds up to mega snore fest. I completely zone out the parts that are Jack Walker. It is so bad that the epic narration of Sean Runnette , (a guy who could literally make a manual on how to use a toilet plunger interesting and fun.) can't make it bearable ..in fact this is mt first 4 star for Runnette.. I think maybe the writing may have bored him into apathy as well... So the pats that are not Jack Walker are great, entertaining, interesting, captivating etc etc.. to bad half the book is so boring.. like Ben Stine reading the alphabet over and over boring.

Somewhere in between the beginning and the end

As with any great series there is the
Middle section. It’s usually somewhat slower and not as exciting as the beginning and the end. Not so with this!!!! It’s just as action packed and keeps you on the edge of your seat!!!

just kinda more of the same

The book is decent and I'm a fan of both o'brien and tufo. Sean Runnette is of course one of the best narrators out there. However I had to say that I was waiting for the end of the book to come because it was pretty much just run around and get chased by bad guys. Overall it's fine but not the best book I've ever read.
