Publisher's Summary

Nalini Singh, the New York Times best-selling 'alpha author of paranormal romance' (Booklist), returns to an immortal world of violent passion and lethal power...on the brink of a deadly archangelic war.

Angels are falling from the sky in New York, struck down by a vicious, unknown force. Vampires are dying impossibly of disease. Guild hunter Elena Deveraux and the Archangel Raphael must discover the source of the wave of death before it engulfs their city and their people, leaving New York a ruin and Raphael's Tower under siege by enemy archangels.

Yet even as they fight desperately to save the city, an even darker force is stirring, its chill eyes trained on New York...and on Raphael. Rivers of crimson and nightmares given flesh, the world will never again be the same....

Read by Justine Eyre.

Raphael and Elena

Raphael, in case you’re getting ideas—I won’t be this civilized if you decide you need a concubine. In fact, it’s a good bet I’ll turn homicidal. He didn’t look up from his conversation with Astaad as he said, A pity, in that cool “Archangel” tone of his. I will now have to ask the pilot to empty the hold of my chosen females. We’re going to have to talk about this new sense of humor of yours. This would have had to be one of the funniest conversations between Raphael and Elena. I had tears running down my cheeks when I had read this. It just proves what a strong relationship the two of them have. I love reading Nalini’s books, they just keep getting better and better. This book would have to be my favourite so far. There was so much going on that it had me on edge the whole way through. Some of the things that I really enjoyed: -The changes happening to Raphael (The Legion) OMG!!! -More background history for Aodhan (Sparkle) and Illium (Bluebell). -The little crush Izak has on Elena. -Interesting news about Vivek. -We meet a new vampire Naasir, (what the heck is he 😕) Thanks Nalini for making another fantastic story for us to enjoy xx

Awesome book, not sure about the narration

This book is so so good, but I was a bit disconcerted to hear the ‘voices’ of several of the characters had significantly changed from previous books in the series; considering it’s the same narrator, I was surprised about this.

Loved it!

For me this has been the best story in the series (so far) since the first book - I loved it.

I found myself trying to second guess the strange happenings and what the new powers may be and willing the characters on in way I hadn't as energetically since the first book.

Not to say the others weren't good they were - with the only exception being that I found honor's story a little too unbelievable even for the fantasy genre -

A lot happening

There is such a lot happening in this book I don't know where to start.
The crazy bitch queen is on the war path again but Elenor and the rest of the guild is helping fight her and keep her from taking over New York.
