About this listen

Nalini Singh steps back into the shadows of her heartbreakingly original world where angels rule, vampires serve, and the innocent can pay the greatest price of all...

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil...

A vampire has attacked a girls'school - the assault one of sheer, vicious madness - and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders.

The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear.

An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed...

Good fun. an exciting and dark world. glad to see Raphael's human heart growing. Initially I didn't like the narrator's voice but by the end could really appreciate it.

sexy. fun.

I’m a long time rereader of this series and love it (for the first 10 or so books). The world and the characters are amazing, and NS has a talent for weaving a story dragging you in and keeping you there.

Finally, I’ve got the audio books… and they are a huge let down. Nothing against JE, but there’s nothing right about her narrating these books. Whoever decided she’s the one should be fired… they are in the wrong business.

The only voice I think might be ok is Jeeves/Montgomery. And Michaela barely scrapes thru an okish. The rest are awful. The men are terrible as JE really can’t pull any of them off (I was stunned when Montgomery seemed ok), and the women are just as bad.

I admit I should have cut my losses and stopped at audio bk1, but they are the whole reason I caved and got audio. I’m hoping, overtime, I’ll be able to tune JE’s voice out and just enjoy the stories again. 🤞

Love this series, but the narration 😭

Review I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved the relationship that has blossomed between Raphael and Elena. They are the Ying to the others Yang. I was a little disappointed with the fight scene that had taken place as we had been building up from the beginning of the book to have this epic fight but no such luck. Other then that I thoroughly enjoy this and can't wait to see what is to come for Raphael and Elena.

Series! Series!
You know i love my books in multiples. Its about getting to know your favorite characters more and more every book. Having an opportunity to find out the story of the secondary characters that always capture us but are not the focus of the story. For all these reasons and so many more ... I love series.
I have just discovered Nalini Singh and her Archangel Series and wow what a find. Add to the wonderful depth of the story and the fantastic characters she creates, the fantastic narration by Justine Eyre and its a flawless combination.
I listened to the first three back to back and cannot wait for the next installment.
Highly recommend this series, writer and narrator!!
Cheers :)
