Outreach Magazine Resource of the Year 2019: Apologetics

The Gospel Coalition Book Award 2018: Evangelism & Apologetics

Amid the pluralism and secularism of Western culture, Christian apologetics has experienced a renewal of interest. In Apologetics at the Cross, Joshua D. Chatraw and Mark D. Allen provide an introduction to the field, acquainting students and lay learners with the rich history, biblical foundation, and ongoing relevance of apologetics.

Unique in its approach, Apologetics at the Cross presents the biblical and historical foundations for apologetics, explores various contemporary methods for approaching apologetics, and gives practical guidance in "how to" chapters that feature many real-life illustrations. With their respectful approach, which pays special attention to the attitude and posture of the apologist, Chatraw and Allen equip Christians to engage skeptics with the heart as well as the mind.

Conversational in tone and balanced in approach, Apologetics at the Cross provides a listenable introduction to the field of apologetics. Listeners will be informed and equipped for engaging a wide range of contemporary challenges with the best in Christian thought.

great examples on how to relate to world views

it wasn't until chapter 12 that I actually got some really good examples how to respond however following up to chapter 12 was important because it gave a firm foundation of what and why we believe what we do.

Great book for anyone!

The thoroughness of this book is astounding! I am usually not so easily pleased with books relating to Christianity, because theology is my passion so I am quite opinionated. However, this book has nearly no flaw in my eyes. My only gripe is that I would have liked the readers to have a dedicated chapter to giving an apologetic as to why Christianity is true, but I recognize that was not the purpose of this book. Great book, will likely read again.

MY OPINION

I chose this rating because I think the book was long and dry with some chapters being very drawn out. It was a textbook for class that I feel a better choice could’ve been used. The authors relied to much on history’s apologist which was a huge turn off. Can’t say if I would or wouldn’t recommend the book but I can say that I learned very little from the book.
I also would have flipped the position of the last two chapters. Let’s make a case and then apply that by challenging some of the well know defeaters.
Performance got 5 stars because he did a very good job on pronunciation and clarity.
Overall of the book got a 3.
Story got a 2 because it’s not written in a story format.
