Ludmilu z Vartemberka, manželku královského prokurátora Oldřicha z Chlumu, navštíví na hradě Bezdězu její přítelkyně Anna z Rohozce. Již delší čas ji trápí podivné sny. V pitoreskním reji se jí v jeskyni zjevuje démon a zmocňuje jejího těla. Její otec přikládá Anniny vidiny častému pití vína a povolává exorcistu. Ludmila je však přesvědčena, že Anna mluví pravdu.
