Publisher's Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

The funny, touching and unpredictable new novel from the multi-million-copy best-selling author of A Man Called Ove.

In a small town in Sweden it appears to be an ordinary day. But look more closely and you'll see a mysterious masked figure approaching a bank.

Two hours later, chaos has descended. A bungled attempted robbery has developed into a hostage situation - and the offender is refusing to communicate their demands to the police.

Inside the building, fear quickly turns to irritation for the seven strangers trapped inside. If this is to be their last day on earth, shouldn't it be a bit more dramatic?

But as the minutes tick by, they begin to suspect that the criminal mastermind holding them hostage might be more in need of rescuing than they are.

Narrators voice annoying.

Storyline was great. The character’s were quirky and interesting. However this is probably a very personal thing but the story was not set in America. So having a narrator with an annoying nasal twang American accent spoils it for me.

Brilliant!

Everything you expect from a Fredrick Blackman book, but even more! The woven story held me captivated from start to finish.

love, love, love it

I adore everything I've ever read by Fredrik Backman and I didn't know it was possible to love him any more than I already did. But this book. This book is one of the most beautiful, heartwarming, relatable, wonderful books I have ever read. I want to read it a hundred times so that these characters never leave my life. I will be recommending this book to everyone I meet. Forever.

Left it unfinished

Interesting idea but very poor execution. Annoying to listen, unconvincing and repetitive. Couldn't finish it unfortunately.

I loved every moment of this book

Fredrick Backman writes with such insight into the human condition. Every one of his characters is real and just trying to do the best they can like all of us. Heartfelt and humerous, I loved every moment of this book.

Another piece of Fredrik Backman magic

By the other glowing reviews here I can see I am not alone in being a huge Fredrik Backman fan! Backman has such a wonderful take on people and the world, and this is captured beautifully in his writing. I always feel better for having read another of his books. This one did not disappoint and I'd consider it one of my favourites.

Another great read!

Like all books from this author, the characters become your friends and you can’t wait to hear what happens next. At the beginning I found it a little tricky to get into as this style is very different from his previous books, however it didn’t take me long to fall in love with the characters and the story.

Oh I did love this. Such incredible sentiments narration tops, and delightful characters. I’ve laughed and cried and beg for another of Fredrik Backman stories. Boy can he write.

Very Clever, funny and totally enjoyable

I liked this book because it was flat out funny and told the truth about ‘adulting’. That is hard and we all struggle with it.

Where is Britt Marie when we need her?

This question requires the interobang. I have her voice in my mind, and "Ha!" in her voice. Why oh why am I not hearing Joan Walker's performance, and why would Fredrick Backman be read in American? A rich, thought provoking, funny and surprising story .

Great story

Touching and humorous with a touch of mystery. Enjoyed the story and warmed to the characters. In the end you wanted to join the 'party.
