About this listen

She found Anne Frank's diary and brought the world a message of love and hope.

For more than two years, Miep Gies and her husband helped hide the Franks from the Nazis. Like thousands of unsung heroes of the Holocaust, they risked their lives each day to bring food, news, and emotional support to the victims. From her own remarkable childhood as a World War I refugee to the moment she places a small, red-orange, checkered diary -- Anne's legacy -- in Otto Frank's hands, Miep Gies remembers her days with simple honesty and shattering clarity. Each page rings with courage and heartbreaking beauty.

All the people in this story who were not liberated were incredibly brave caring giving unselfish people who cared for others lives as much as their own. unfortunately there are very few people like this. Anne's diary helped shed light on these unsung quiet heroes in a way we may never have known if that diary wasn't so lovingly and privately kept. I guess now they are all passed away it will be the end of The stories from the annex and what came after. Hopefully we have learnt from it and never let this happen again. Although I think where getting close.

When Hero is not a strong enough word.
