Publisher's Summary

Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she's the best - but she doesn't know if she's good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear - failure is not an option... even if the task she's been set is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad.

The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other, and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just may. Because when archangels play, mortals break.

Nalini Singh is amazing.

Love this tale of Angels, Vampires and humans. Excellent world building and dialogue between real and we'll thought out characters. Arrogant, kind, strong, defiant, brilliant.

One of my fave books, and the narrator was great.

This is one of my favourite books, Nalini Singh is in a league of her own. The narrator did a really great job too.

WRONG NARRATOR! Such a waste.

Grrr, I have nothing against Justine Eyre, but who the hell is responsible for choosing narrators? There are definitely books out there that JE would be a great fit for, but why hire a narrator who can’t truely do accents or male voices for such accent and male heavy books. These males aren’t just side or supporting characters, they have their own places within the story. As do the accents. I was disappointed when Raphael stepped in, and almost screamed with annoyance when Dimitri showed up. So bad. (😭😭😭🤬 and I just had a sneak peek at Angels’ Flight… Janvier… sweet Janvier… you are ruined! Devastating).

I don’t think her female voices suited the characters either. JE just isn’t the right choice for this series.

With so many narrators available, why not choose someone who can flow with the characters? There are some who can become each character, regardless of gender. You don’t need the story to tell you who’s talking now, because the narrator can assume the identity in their voice - attitude, age, gender, quirks, tones and more.

Saying all that, I’m a long term reader of this series and adore it up until around Venoms book.

The world building is amazing, the characters are full entities that you can love or hate as you see fit. The story is intricate, well written and different than so many vamp/angel books.

I really want this series on audio, but not sure I can get over just how bad a fit JE is. They are unlikely to re-narrate the series, but maybe I’ll hold out in hope they do a full graphic audio performance? It definitely deserves one.

(Again, nothing against JE. She has a lovely voice that would suit 100s of books, and be easy to listen to… but this series is truely not one of them).

An easy listen/read

To be honest I’m probably pretty liberal with my stars that I dish out. If I listen to the entire book, am keen to keep going and enjoy the storyline than it’s usually a 5 star vote for me.

So why have I given this only 4. Look it’s not that this book wasn’t great or that I didn’t finish it. It’s just that this was the first book i grabbed after devouring the first Cresent City Book by Sarah J Maas and honestly any book I read after that would pale in comparison.

Still I finished this book (it took me a little longer than I usually would) and was interested in the characters to see where they would end up. But I can’t say I’m jumping out of my skin to get to the next one in this series. But I probably will.

Sadly didn't like it

The story itself was intriguing but didn't enjoy how it was written. Very repetitive descriptions and constantly going back over the same information and descriptive terms over and over again.

Narration

The narrator's voice is extremely grating on the nerves but the story is very good.
