About this listen

10 invited guests on an island…

Ten strangers, apparently with little in common, are lured to an island mansion off the coast of Devon by the mysterious U.N.Owen. Over dinner, a record begins to play, and the voice of an unseen host accuses each person of hiding a guilty secret. That evening, former reckless driver Tony Marston is found murdered by a deadly dose of cyanide.

The tension escalates as the survivors realise the killer is not only among them but is preparing to strike again… and again…

Critic Reviews

‘Agatha Christie’s masterpiece.’
Spectator

‘One of the very best, most genuinely bewildering Christies.’
Observer

‘The most astonishingly impudent, ingenious and altogether successful mystery story since The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.’
Daily Herald

‘One of the most ingenious thrillers in many a day.’
Time Magazine

‘There is no doubt that this is a highly ingenious jigsaw by a master of puzzling.’
Books

‘There is no cheating; the reader is just bamboozled in a straightforward way from first to last… The most colossal achievement of a colossal career. The book must rank with Mrs Christie’s previous best – on the top notch of detection.’
New Statesman

‘The whole thing is utterly impossible and utterly fascinating. It is the most baffling mystery Agatha Christie has ever written.’
New York Times

Just loved the cadence of his voice, not too fast, not too slow, kept interest right through this classic

The quality of the narrator

The book was a lot of fun to listen to, very engaging and certainly doesn't waste any time. Dan Stevens has done an excellent job on the narration, he had a lovely voice and made each character distinct (without any breathiness or falsetto for the women yayyyyy!!!)

Fantastic story and narration

Christie is so in tune with the British character and it is fascinating to see the world from their perspective. A thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable listen. However the modus operandi falls apart somewhat at the end.

Fascinating and entertaining

Great narration. Great story. I very much enjoyed this story and the narrator does a great job of conveying it in a pleasant and interesting way. Felt like a breeze to get through and couldn't stop listening towards the latter third. 100% should listen.

Fantastic - Highly Recommend

Such fun, what a great reveal. One of these days I'll be able to solve a Christie!

I didn't guess it - who would?!

Agatha’s mind amazes me in this work, I would be truly surprised by anybody who guessed the solution on their first reading Dan Stevenson does an amazing job as his narration. He brings individual life to each one of the characters, and you don’t get caught up with inaccuracies in his voice.

A genius writer

A truly gripping tale if ever there was one. One of Christie's best, surely, and so chilling! I cannot overstate how much Dan Steven's narration enhanced the experience - I often struggle to pay full attention to audio books, but the combination of the story and Dan Steven's brilliant voice work has seen me finish the whole thing in record time, desperate not to put down my headphones! He so excellently performs each voice, each character distinct, and his natural tone for the narration of action rather than dialogue is exactly the sort of voice one could listen to for hours. Highly recommend, please get Dan reading more Agatha Christies! they make a wonderful combination.

Remarkable Story, Fantastic Narration!

An excellent “who dun it” made even better by Dan Stevens and his narrating. Gives all the characters a little life of their own that even Agatha would be proud of. What surprised me the most was after finishing the book you just begin to realise how many movies have been made with this serving as a inspiration.

Exactly what I was looking for!
