Publisher's Summary

The number one best seller and Sunday Times Humour Book of the Year by national treasure Bob Mortimer.

Bob Mortimer’s life was trundling along happily until, suddenly in 2015, he was diagnosed with a heart condition that required immediate surgery and forced him to cancel an upcoming tour. The episode unnerved him but forced him to reflect on his life so far. This is the framework for his hilarious and moving memoir, And Away....

Although his childhood in Middlesbrough was normal on the surface, it was tinged by the loss of his dad and his own various misadventures (now infamous from his appearances on Would I Lie to You?), from burning down the family home to starting a short-lived punk band called Dog Dirt. As an adult, he trained as a solicitor and moved to London. Though he was doing pretty well (the South London Press once crowned him ‘The Cockroach King’ after a successful verdict), a chance encounter in a pub in the 1980s with a young comedian going by the name Vic Reeves set his life on a different track. And now, six years on, the heart condition that once threatened his career has instead led to new success on BBC2’s Gone Fishing.

Warm, profound and irrepressibly funny, And Away is Bob’s full life story (with a few lies thrown in for good measure).

If you are a fan

Like all bio’s you have to be a fan. I found this a great listen and not as manic as vics.

A unique person

Someone like Bob emerging out of the woodwork is both amazing and not surprising at all. How does the UK create these freaks. In comparison Australia is a wasteland. What a delightful book.

Just Smiling

A Treasure.
I don't really feel the need for a 15 word review, so now that I've used the 15 words required, I will simply repeat.

Love Bob, very entertaining 5⭐

Narration was lovely as Bob himself. just like listening to one of his stories on 'would I lie to you' etc.
Very honest, self depreciating, quite sad in parts and hilarious too. Just made me love Bob more..❤

Like a lovely warm cappa choo choo

I love Bob. He is warm, wise, funny, self depreciative and humble (in a non-humble-brag way). My favourite chapters were about his childhood and the ‘before fame’ bit. And his recovery from heart surgery. I thought it would be LOLs all the way through but it was very tender and even a bit sad, in places.

Hilarious and simply lovely

Honestly, the most low-key funny book I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. What an absolute delight Bob Mortimer is.

Eranu

Loved it. Bob is a charming fellow with a delightful storytelling style. His acting is better than he thinks. He doesn’t die in the end.

This is a Ripper!

Bob gives a down-to-earth recount of his life. Heartwarming, honest and humorous, there is much to learn about Bob Mortimer. What strikes me is his loyalty, his love for his mum, Lisa and his boys and his nearest and dearest friends. He is incredibly genuine and great to listen to.

Loved This Book

Did not want it to end, when I did I was sad. Bob as always made me laugh and in this book you really get to no him and what a wonderful human being he is.
