Publisher's Summary

Unflinching and plainspoken, Tessa Swan is not your typical 18th-century woman. Born and bred on the Western Virginia frontier along with her five brothers, she is a force to be reckoned with.

Quiet and courageous, Clay Tygart is not your typical 18th-century man. Raised by Lenape Indians, he returns a hero from the French and Indian War to the fort that bears his name, bringing with him Tessa's long-lost friend, Keturah, a redeemed Indian captive like himself.

Determined to avoid any romantic entanglements as fort commander, Clay remains aloof whenever he encounters the lovely Tessa. But when she is taken captive by the tribe Clay left, his hand - and heart - are forced, leading to one very private and one very public reckoning.

Intense, evocative, and laced with intricate historical details that bring the past to life, An Uncommon Woman will transport you to the picturesque and dangerous Western Virginia mountains of 1770.

Beautiful Historic Story

Laura Frantz brings frontier life alive like no other author. I loved Tessa and Clay, and I thought Aimee Lilly did a wonderful job with the narration. Highly recommended.

Solid romance and sound history

The author has a wonderful grasp of history but it doesn't side track her from a sweet romance. It just enhances the story. As a history teacher myself, I can appreciate the research involved. Sometimes historical authors don't make the best romance authors, but Laura Frantz's characters had you rooting for them from the beginning. I thought their romance was genuine and sweet.

Amazing!

Such an amazing story!
Tessa's life has always known danger, she longs for peace.
Her best friend has returned after many years of captivity. Though she has changed much, she is still a sister of the heart. I loved the intense friendship between the two women even when parted.
Matchmaking Great Aunt Hester was a wonderful character as was Maddie ❤️
Clay has many troubles of his own and believes harm will come to everyone he loves. But there is something special about Tessa Swan. I enjoyed the stolen kisses and the unconventional romance.
Tessa is a no-nonsense kind of woman with a bit of stubbornness to her.
I loved her and Clay together!

I have both read and listened to this book, I highly recommend it!
Aimee Lilly is a wonderful narrator and she sings!

The story is engaging, historical, and poignant. Thank you to Laura for another best-seller and to Aimee for capturing the sense of the times and the accents of many voices.

A True Adventure - romance, danger and history!

I didn’t want An Uncommon Woman to end, the characters were so real and I wanted to befriend them, diverse as they were. I read the book and after I got past the middle I started listening to the audiobook with my husband. When I finished reading, I was able to listen to the ending “all over again”. This is a book to savor and read more than just one time and very few books rate that honor on my overly full shelves.
Excellent narration! Each character’s voice was distinct!

Very good story

I am so glad I preordered this book. It was worth the wait. The storyline was great and the narrator painted a good picture as if I was was watching the scene on TV. Great book. Enjoyed the writer’s footnote. Only thing lacking in this story was that it ended.
