In every life there is a turning point. A moment so tremendous, so sharp and breathtaking, that one knows one’s life will never be the same. For Michael Stirling, London’s most infamous rake, that moment came the first time he laid eyes on Francesca Bridgerton. After a lifetime of chasing women, of smiling slyly as they chased him, of allowing himself to be caught but never permitting his heart to become engaged, he took one look at Francesca Bridgerton and fell so fast and hard into love it was a wonder he managed to remain standing.

All the ton agree: there is no one quite like Hyacinth Bridgerton. Fiendishly smart, devilishly outspoken and - according to some, particularly Gareth St. Clair - probably best in small doses. But there's something about her - something charming and vexing - that grabs one and won't quite let go. Gareth and Hyacinth cross paths at the annual - and annually discordant - Smythe-Smith musicale. To Hyacinth, Gareth's every word seems a dare, and she offers to help him out with a knotty inheritance problem he's facing.

And as for Daphne, surely she will attract some worthy suitors now that it seems a duke has declared her desirable. Once upon a time, a historical romance author created a family.... But not just any family. Eight brothers and sisters, assorted in-laws, sons and daughters, nieces and nephews (not to mention an overweight corgi), plus an irrepressible matriarch who's a match for any of them.... These are the Bridgertons: less a family than a force of nature. Through eight best-selling novels, listeners laughed, cried, and fell in love. But they wanted more.

The Vega twins are alive. Those five words circle in my mind like an oncoming storm. They change everything about the future we thought had been set in stone. They challenge everything we were raised to be and the stability of the entire kingdom. They’re coming to our academy looking for the life that was stolen from them, but we can’t let them take it back. So much hangs in the balance and we can’t risk the arrival of two naïve princesses destroying everything we worked so hard for. I have stood in the shadow of Lionel Acrux for far too long already.

Publisher's Summary
The third novel in the beloved Regency-set world of Julia Quinn's charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shonda Rhimes for Netflix. Welcome to Benedict's story....
Sophie Beckett never dreamt she would sneak into Lady Bridgerton's famed masquerade ball - or that 'Prince Charming' would be waiting there for her! Though the daughter of an earl, Sophie had been relegated to the role of servant by her disdainful stepmother. But that night, spinning in the strong arms of the debonair and devastatingly handsome Benedict Bridgerton, she felt like royalty. Yet she knows all enchantments must end.
But Sophie has reckoned without Benedict's determined heart: he has sworn to find and wed his mystery miss, for he knows this is his only chance for a fairy tale love....
Critic Reviews
"Light, pacy and full of feisty heroines." (Guardian on the Bridgerton series)
"Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books take all of the classic tropes we know and love...and gives them a thoroughly modern twist. I can't focus on anything else." (Stylist)
"Quinn is a master of historical romance." (Entertainment Weekly)

Not my favourite Bridgerton book
I struggled to listen to this one at times. it starts off as a typical Cinderella story. I found this a bit boring as the Cinderella story has been done so many times. The first two books were fantastic whereas I found this one quite tedious & very predictable at times. I loved the first two books but wasn't a big fan of this one.

Bit of a Challenge
I struggled with this book a bit.
The beginning storyline felt to the letter ‘Cinderella’ and I craved the more original turn. When that finally came and the story unfurled I found myself annoyed by the main characters. There were definitely parts I did enjoy, and I am glad I got through the whole thing as it contributes to the overall Bridgerton storyline, but it was a hard slog at times.
Personal preference only - some of the voices for certain characters put me off a bit. In saying that, I felt others were so spot on and I thoroughly enjoyed their characterisation.
Overall a very mixed bag this book.

Most enjoyable
I love a Cinderella story and, based on the character introductions in Season 1 of Netflix’s Bridgerton series, felt Benedict made for the perfect ‘prince charming’ in this one.
I was most curious to read(hear) Benedict’s story as I found his storyline and the Luke Thomason’s portrayal the most titillating of the remaining siblings however my eagerness was soon deflated when I read some of the negative reviews here.
But I went in with an open mind and am glad I did. I really enjoyed this story and found it neither disappointing nor misogynistic as others have stated or implied.
Both main protagonists wrestle their respective wants and needs against their principles and societal expectations. The offer may sound indecent but it does make sense, as does the refusal. And even though Benedict persists, Sophie also perseveres which balances the story nicely. Had Benedict given up or inappropriately forced himself upon Sophie, or, had She immediately accepted his offer or completely shut him out, there’d be no story - or it would be a very short uninteresting one indeed.
The author did a great job in keeping her audience engaged with anticipation during Benedict and Sophie’s push pull to see it out to the happy ending it was.
Benedict is no less the hot-blooded man than the next eligible bachelor of the ‘Ton however you will see he is very much a gentleman, and one well worth reading about with an open mind.

A Cinderella Tale
Look, I love the Bridgerton books so far but this one was a little hard to finish. The Cinderella plot line is so overused, so I was a little disappointed in this book. And the glove which played the part of the glass slipper wasn't ever used again (iykyk). I found myself a little bored at times, we all know they end up together so there really needs to be more filler than a reused fairytale.
Also TW for anyone who doesn't want scenes mentioning attempted r*pe (not graphic).
I gave the story a 2 because I thought Julia Quinn could do so much better than this..

I liked the story very much, even if sometimes its a bit too cliché, but the narrator, as clear spoken as she is, just doesn't fit the vibe of the story...

Badly written but good story
These books are so badly written, you can tell from the first chapter that the author is writing about a period that she knows little about. The text is littered with 'Americanisms' and inaccuracies so if you are seriously into your period novels then this will wear thin. All of the lead female characters are bimbo's and airheads despite the author continually telling us they are intelligent, which is incredibly disappointing from a female author. If you are any kind of feminist then these books are not for you. HOWEVER I'm a sucker for romance and I just can't stop buying them. That probably says more about me than about the books.

A diverting story.
I enjoy all Julia Quinn's Bridgerton books. The only thing that grates is the obvious 'Americanisms' like 'gotten' instead of 'got'. And the use of 'right?' at the end of a sentence. This is 19th century England after all.
The narrator is excellent though.

Loved it.
This is Benedict Bridgerton's story and what a wonderful story it is. It is very much like Cinderella, he falls for a masked woman who attends his family's masquerade ball. She attends against her stepmother's wishes and needs to be on her way home by midnight if she is to remain undiscovered, but rather than leave a glass slipper behind, Benedict is left with one of her gloves.
I love the likeness to Cinderella but it is so much more than that. This book, as with the others in the series had the perfect mix of light and dark moments and I loved that it could make me laugh out loud in places.
The narration by Rosalyn Landor as always is perfect. She not only makes the lead characters come to life, but her voices of even the smallest parts are delightful. I am very much looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Disappointed
I listened to the first 2 books a few times. I really like them. This one was just... insipid to give it a word, specially in the beginning. I even tried to listen again to see if I like it but I just can't. It was hard the first time. I'm returning it.
