About this listen

A killer running rings around the police. A detective spiralling out of control.

DI Kate Young is on leave. She’s the force’s best detective, but her bosses know she’s under pressure, on medication and overcoming trauma. So after her bad judgement call leads to a narrowly averted public disaster, they’re sure all she needs is a rest.

But when Staffordshire Police summon her back to work on a murder case, it’s a harder, more suspicious Kate Young who returns. With a new ruthlessness, she sets about tracking down a clinical, calculating serial killer who is torturing victims and leaving clues to taunt the police. Spurred on by her reporter husband, Young begins to suspect that the murderer might be closer than she ever imagined.

As she works to uncover the truth, Young unravels a network of secrets and lies, with even those closest to her having something to hide. But with her own competence—and her grip on reality—called into question, can she unmask the killer before they strike again?

A story that keeps you engaged. At first I wasn’t sure what was going on with the flashbacks but oh my goodness when that hit I was shocked. The crime is horrific but what they did was so much worse.

Well I didn’t see that little bit coming

I chose this book because of the narrator. It’s a pretty good storyline, but now I have to read book 2!

Pretty good

As a huge fan of Carol Wyers other series, I was excited to see this one. It did however take me a while to get into this one but it was worth sticking with it because it turned out to be a great story! On to the next!

Took a while BUT

I have have had at least 6 goes at listening to this book and l have never got passed the beginning of Chapter 3. I feel like throwing the Tablet - it is the voice - no way can this person read. She has killed it dead for me to the point I simply cannot tolerate to listen at all My reaction is visceral.

Sorry Carol Wyer.

I usually enjoy Carol Wyer's work - but not now!

I cannot listen to the narration, it’s just grating and frankly unbearable. Very disappointing, refund please as I cannot get beyond chapter 3

I struggled with this book due to the voice(s) of the narrator. I finished it but won't be rushing to buy any more. The plot was reasonable although I think I had worked it out by the mid point. I found the main character whiny and annoying but that was probably due to the voice.

Story quite inventive but spoilt by narrator
