About this listen
She never expected to marry....
Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun, when her mother suddenly arrived at the abbey to take her home...so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed.
He never expected to fall in love....
From the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy, sweet bride...and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her. For though Annabel's not the bride he planned for, she's the only woman he desires....

A delightful story
Being a historical? novel, I find is a refreshing change from the modern stories where the male is well endowed and the female loves being slapped and pounded.
This story had some funny moments and caused me to laugh, especially how the Laird works around a bedding ceremony when it falls on a Wednesday.😀

An English Bride in Scotland
This was an enjoyable tale of an unwanted second daughter destined for the veil and a Scottish Laird who had been promised a bride. The road to true love and happiness is dogged by someone trying to harm her.

Heart warming
I loved this story. It was thrilling in places and I was shaking my head at the foolishness and the wickedness of the sister.

Good romance needed a bit more adventure
The romance was there in the book as was the erotic love scenes. I would have liked just a bit more adventure perhaps? I wasn't big on the narrator as the Scottish accent wasn't done very well. still will read the next one and see what I think after that.

Amazing story
I loved this story and it's twists and turns.
Now whilst loving this audiobook I do with the lovely lady reading this had the true Scottish brogue. But then again for the wee English lass the story was about it would have been a little hard.
Enjoyable and keeps you enthralled. Looking forward to more.

A Bit Too Perfect
I enjoyed this story. It was sweet and I loved the different characters, but the main male character was a bit too perfect.
Narration was good. 4/5

Simple characters and predictable plot
This book was enjoyable enough but definitely not one of the better historical romances I've read. The characters were a bit one-dimensional, and the plot was pretty basic. I lost patience when the FL became a complete air-head and fell for an obvious trick, despite knowing the danger she was in. The romance was nice but there wasn't much to their relationship beyond sex and some general likeability. However Mary Jane Wells did a great job of the narration like always.

I made it to chapter 5
The premise is good, the characters are likeable, the narrator is good. However, the MC comes off as a sex pest rather than a ‘seducer’. He keeps standing over her, crossing her boundaries, staring inappropriately and making her feel vulnerable. On the wedding night he plies her with alcohol to ‘loosen her up’ which is rapey and gross. However, she passed out instead and he thankfully left her alone so I hoped it would get better.
The next sex scene is Chapter 5. After the author writes that the MC won’t outright order his new bride to submit to sex (er, what a great guy? Is the bar really so low?) he comes up with a way to manipulate her into submitting (so, same thing as ordering her, just with plausible deniability). He lures her out under the guise of a picnic to show her his grounds, but his true intention is to get her alone for sex. The author uses the word ‘seduce’ but it’s not seductive at all. The FC isn’t inspired or enthusiastic at all, it’s all forced upon her unexpectedly. He pushes himself against her, won’t let her move away, gives her an orgasm first using his fingers (digital penetration without consent) and then he feels entitled to get his. It’s her first time and it’s clearly painful for her but she grits her teeth and bears it. It’s so awful, and a trope I really hate.
I don’t want to read further.
