I still have chills...

I had trouble getting into the book at first but stuck with it and so glad I did! It just kept getting better and better the whole time leaving me covered in goose bumps.

I don't want to give anything away for the next reader so I'll just say what an awesome storyline and great characters. The narrator was a huge key into bringing each character to life giving them their own unique voice and emotions (that I felt). Goose bumps up, hair standing on end, gasping at times and laughing at other times... such a wonderful thriller.

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the publisher/ author but voluntarily give my honest review.

A great thriller that makes you ask What If

This is a good story to go into totally cold. What I mean by that is, don't read the back of it, don't read the description, and know as little about it as possible before you listen. Let it surprise you. Just know that you like a good thriller and take a chance on it.

I will tell you this much. It's not overly religious in spite of the mention of angels in the title. It's far more about fate, about the little twists and turns that life takes, about the things you think about after they happen. Have you ever witnessed a bad accident in front of you and thought to yourself, Wow if I hadn't sneezed before I left the house, I would have gotten in the car 3 seconds sooner and that could be me! Well, maybe not the part about the sneeze, but hopefully you know what I mean. :)

There were only a couple of times when I wanted to hit the main characters on the back of their head for not taking action sooner. But that just means that I was emotionally drawn into the story, so I suppose that speak to Dan Alatorre's ability to hook me.

Narration by David Bosco was top notch. He puts the emotion right where it needs to be. There was a fair amount of hysteria on the part of women at times in this book, and that's not easy for anyone to pull off, but David managed it with grace.

I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Surprisingly good paranormal story

Stick with it. The story starts slow but builds into something good. Overall, the narrator did a good job. My my only quibble is with the way the narrator did the female voices. There very little difference between the female characters. I received this audio book for free through Audiobook Boom for my unbiased review.

Great Supernatural Thriller

If bad things kept happening to your family at the same time every year, would you chalk it up to mere coincidence or something else? That's the dilemma facing Doug. Forced to consider the possibility that dark forces may be at work, Doug begins seeking out answers and comes to a frightening realization. His family is in danger and they're running out of time.

Just when the story was really getting good, I realized that it was already late at night. I kept thinking that I'd just listen to one more chapter and then go to bed. Well, that didn't quite work out because I stayed up until 3am, having to get to the ending. The suspense kept building to the thrilling climax and left me satisfied when I finished. There was no shortage of interesting characters along the way, both good and evil. The religious element was important to the plot but it was not done in an overly preachy way. This was great storytelling and I thoroughly enjoyed it. David Bosco's performance really brought the characters and story to life, adding to my enjoyment. I loved this supernatural thriller and would recommend it.

A captivating paranormal tale- would recommend...

An Angel on Her Shoulder by Dan Alatorre and narrated by David Bosco is a captivating paranormal tale with religious undertones. It has a Supernatural-esque feel to it, so if you are a fan of that show, give this a try.

The narrator, David Bosco, was exceptional as usual! I’ve made it clear in previous reviews I am a fan of his narration and look forward to his future books and how he progresses as a narrator. David enunciates well and has an easy to follow pace. I highly recommend him.

What to expect: Doug and his family (wife Mallory & daughter Sophie) have odd/scary things happen to them at the same time every year (I won’t go into specifics due to spoilers). There is a creepiness to it, but not a jump out of your seat type. Friendships, family, the unknown, clairvoyance, religion, and general life events/outings are present throughout. The book has a slower build- stick with it and I doubt you will be disappointed. The story is told between the past and present time (I had no problems with the changing back and forth as it’s very clear when it changes).

Despite the religious aspect, it was not preachy. It may or may not have you thinking/questioning the “what ifs” that have happened in your life. I really enjoyed the parts when Doug was a kid (at times it added humor to the story). I wish some of the characters would have came along sooner (Tyree).

A couple things I didn’t care for:
1) The emotional annoying wife cliché. Maybe if she had some character development I’d feel different? Or played a larger role at the end? Whatever the reason, she didn’t sit well with me.
2) There were a couple parts I wish had a little more to them.

I would listen to another book if a sequel was in the works. Overall, I recommend, especially if you enjoy paranormal religious themes.

Parental guidance/trigger warnings: religion (Christianity, angels, demons), suicide of mother and her baby via train, voodoo, Hitler talk (killing him hypothetically via a game kids made up), kid sees murders or attempted murder, someone is injured from a automobile, adults drinking (not in excess). It’s possible I missed some as once I got into the story, it was difficult to remember to write stuff down.
Words: S-word x4, F-word x2, h3llx24, crap x9, damn x21.

Great story

It may take a bit to all come together but it is definitely worth the ride.
Angel or dark angle? Demon or something else? What is after this family in the form of an accident waiting to happen? Are they crazy or is this real? When a reoccurring dream becomes a shared one everyone realizes they aren’t crazy after all.
David Bosco does an excellent job narrating.

Suspenseful story

I thoroughly enjoyed this Audible edition. The story had me on the edge of my seat. Additionally, the narration by David Bosco was fantastic. He has a great ability to differentiate between several characters. His portrayal of female and child voices were believable and not a fake rendition. I liked his use of effects, they added to the elements in the story. I would recommend this audible book, especially if you have the ability to listen in the car, it makes a long ride more tolerable.

REALLY GOOD!

I for one love long stories where you really get down deep into it. This was a great story by Dan Alatorre, narrated by David Bosco.

Loved the story, well written, and loved the narration also. David really did an amazing job telling a great story :)

Was caught in the web of suspense the entire way through, creepy and chilly and intriguing, I loved it!

Positive and enjoyable story

Author Dan Alatorre starts this novel with a fairly good backstory, but you may need to listen twice. I did and found so much I had missed the first time.

The remainder of the audiobook is mostly present tense, with a few flashes back to the main character’s childhood. Although the audiobook introduces the subject of good and bad angels, the story is not so supernatural to get scary. I did not enjoy the voodoo references and feel it was not necessary to the story.

Narrator David Bosco is fantastic. He does an excellent job of reading male, female and child voices. His best voice characterization is Tyree. He WAS that man!

Overall I enjoyed this audiobook and am so glad I listened twice.
