Publisher's Summary

Among the Echoes is a full-length standalone novel.

My name was Dr. Erica Hill. I was a victim, then a witness, and then I ceased to exist altogether.

I may still be breathing, but stripped of my identity, I have long since stopped living. I am invisible, and my life depends on my ability to stay in the shadows.

But he sees me.

Slate Andrews is the embodiment of everything I have been taught to avoid. He’s rich and famous, and one image of him with a woman would earn millions for any paparazzi lucky enough to snap it. He has vowed to protect me with his life, yet he exposes me with his every breath. I should be stronger and walk away. I should disappear. But I’m terrified he would come after me.

I’m on the run, determined not to take him down with me, but absolutely unable to let him go.

My name is Riley Peterson...at least for today.

This novel contains material that may be offensive to some listeners. Including sexual abuse, graphic language, and adult situations. Intended for listeners 18+.

Exciting romantic suspense!

A fast paced story in this audiobook made it great to listen to. The heroine when we first meet is in dire straights ( please note: there are some triggers right off the bat- violence, rape, etc). Then we meet the hero who is the heavyweight boxing champion of the world who is tired of all the publicity and hype and is considering quitting. He has an apartment in a small town in Ohio where he goes to hide out and decompress and that’s where he literally runs into the heroine. Neither of them give their real names and he’s fascinated by how scared she seems to be. As they slowly get to know one another you wonder if either of them will ever tell the other the truth about who they are and once they do will they ever be safe? Narration was well done.

Riley is a pain in the butt

Slate is such a good guy; patient and understanding and does not deserve Riley’s messed up life and attitude. I feel for Dave who has to try to stay as positive as possible. As a victim of severe sexual assaults, Riley should receive extensive therapy to work through issues; she has a reason to feel freaked out. The narrators did a good job. Book was thought-provoking.

Story good Female narrator cringeworthy

Romance with some excitement.i enjoy getting to know these characters but it as hard to listen to female narrator. She sounded 80 years old. I couldn’t wait for the male to takeover and would have not finished it otherwise.

Among the Echoes

I read and listen to this book as book 2.5 in the Wrecked and Ruined Series (and also as an introduction to the On the Ropes series), and holy cow! The story is fantastic! Aly Martinez has a way with words~ she can tear me up like no one else! I loved Carson Beck as Slate, and Laura Jennings was pretty good, but not what I had pictured Riley/Erica as in my head.

Definitely worth listening and/or reading!

Love this

I went through the On the Ropes series and I wanted to learn more about Slate and this was as great as the spin off books in that series. Oh my goodness, I love Slate. He was a sweetheart throughout this whole book and then way he treated Erica was beautiful. Erica was strong and a wonderful character, despite their past. Note that we start the book with a really difficult chapter. It could be a trigger as there is abuse. But after that, although there were some harrowing times, the book was pretty low angst. Similarly to the On the Ropes books, I loved how really, the relationship between the couple was so strong and they overcame their challenges- together.

Laura Jennings and Carson Beck narrated all three of the One the Ropes books and they did a great job in this book as well.

Good but some parts were difficult to read...

Overall, this was a well-written read with a HEA ending we all crave. I will say that IMO parts of the story were a little far-fetched while other sections were hard to get through because the heroine has such a tragic past and has been so brutally hurt. Characters with this amount of damage can be difficult for me to relate to because most of us can’t even imagine living through that amount of trauma and fear. I had to put this book down and take a time out from it more often than I normally would because of the “difficult to digest” content. There were also a couple times I started to lose interest but the story picked up again and I was able to maintain focus. One of the things I enjoyed most about this read was the hero’s patience, persistence and consistency through the book. He refused to give up, and he loved the heroine so effortlessly and unconditionally. Decent narration - female narrator was just ok for me - male narrator was a perfect fit for the hero’s character. Sweet ending. If you have audible escape, this would be a good one to pick up and take advantage of the “free read” with your subscription.

Old woman narrator

So if this book were supposed to have a romantic lead denial character that sounds 70 this narrator would be perfect. But for this book it completely ruins the entire thing sadly. I tried to push through as the male character wasn’t bad, but then it switched back and I couldn’t do it. So bad.

Narrators can make or Break a book

The Narrator Laura Jennings sounds like she’s whispering throughout the entire book. What was also bothersome was that she had a voice that sounds older and would not match the picture I had of the woman in the story. I felt the story was good but the narrators didn’t do the best job.
