Skrinet indeholdt bl.a. tre store bundter breve, og det er disse breve, Arthur Krasilnikoff hermed udgiver. Brevene er skrevet for ca. 100 år siden af en ung dansk sømand. De er til hans elskede Sidsel, og de fortæller om hans anstrengende, farefulde og spændende tur fra New Yorks havn til Australien.
