About this listen
Brought to you by Penguin.
NARRATED BY COLIN MORGAN, STAR OF BELFAST AND THE BBC TV SERIES MERLIN.
From internationally bestselling author John Boyne, a contemplative story about one man trying to move forward from the trauma of his youth to become a better father to his son.
Being in limbo, 30,000 feet in the air, offers time to reflect and take stock. For Aaron Umber, it’s an opportunity to connect with his 14-year-old son as they travel halfway across the world to meet a woman who isn’t expecting them.
Unsettled by his past, and anxious for his future, Aaron is at a crossroads in life. The damage inflicted upon him during his youth has made him the man he is, but now threatens to widen the growing fissures between him and his only child. This trip could bind them closer together, or tear them further apart.
In this penetrating examination of action and consequence, fault and attribution, acceptance and resolution, John Boyne gives us a redemptive story of a father and a son on a moving journey to mend their troubled lives.

A great end to the series
I loved the way the four books came together in this final send off for the series. Aaron was a breath of fresh Air (pardon the pun) amongst the previous protagonists.
Also amazing narration by Colin Morgan. I really appreciated his nuance and attention to detail with each of the accents.

The elements
Evan and Aryyn Willow and Rebecca…uplifting and sorrowful. To laugh and cry. Evil Freya and the a’hole swim coach. Beautifully written and narrated. Many thanks ✌🏼🌱🙏🏼

All that is Air
Initially I found the Narrator distracting- a feeling that he was reading the words carefully more than the flow of the words, resulting in less than authentic characters. John Boyne is a favourite of mine so I felt it had to be much more than the less than captivating opening chapters.
As always it is the back stories that give this novella the depth I enjoy so much with his writing.
Bringing Air to the finality and back at the island is what life is - as the wheel turns …..and how we endure. I really enjoyed it.

A very satisfying ending
I read all four books in order and liked the way the author connected all of them in a very clever way!
