About this listen

Love, like hell, is a four-letter word for Agatha . . .

No happily ever after for her! Recently married to neighbour James Lacey, Agatha quickly finds that love is not all it's cracked up to be - soon the newly-weds are living in separate cottages and accusing each other of infidelity. Then, after a fight down the local pub, James vanishes - a bloodstain the only clue to his fate. Naturally, Agatha is Suspect Number One. Determined to clear her name - and find her husband - Agatha begins her investigation and promptly discovers a murdered mistress . . .

Agatha is true to form in this instalment in the series, and her part of the story is fun as usual. I had a big problem with this story's flippant use of a common, devastating terminal illness as a plot device. I think a different circumstance could have been used to achieve the same ends without making it difficult for readers (like me) who have personal experience with this particular illness to enjoy this mystery. Just mentioning it in case other readers might want to avoid this kind of content.

Careless plot may alienate certain readers
