About this listen

The next Agatha Raisin mystery from 23 million copy-selling author M. C. Beaton, the Queen of Cosy Crime, about an eccentric Cotswolds-based detective with an erratic love life and a penchant for G and Ts . . .

Agatha and her assistant, Toni, are driving to their friend Bill Wong's wedding, thinking of nothing more than what the beautiful bride will be wearing when a terrified young man comes running down the country lane towards them wearing. . . nothing at all.

The encounter leads them to become embroiled with a naturist group, a disappearing corpse, fantasy games, witchcraft, an ice cream empire, intrigue and murder. In the meantime, Agatha's hectic life swirls along at dizzying pace, her private detective agency as busy as ever and her private affairs in turmoil - old loves to contend with and a new suitor on the scene.

Then she finds herself in deadly danger when she begins to close in on a suspected murderer and the sinister nature of the ice cream business leads her to a chilling conclusion.

"Full of perfectly pitched interest, intrigue and charm." (Lee Child)

"Agatha is like Miss Marple with a drinking problem, a pack-a-day habit and major man lust. In fact, I think she could be living my dream life." (Entertainment Weekly)

"M. C. Beaton's imperfect heroine is an absolute gem." (Publishers Weekly)

Loved it. It’s a typical Agatha story. Great storyline and brilliantly read by Penelope Keith

Another great storyline

Agatha has loads of thrilling (and dangerous) adventures in this book. The plot is blatantly and hilariously ridiculous - I enjoyed its light-hearted silliness. Was very pleased to meet lots of interesting new characters and love interests in this book and relieved that some of the too-familiar tired ones got a bit of a rest. Agatha's boldness really shines and although the book does have some obvious nods to OG Agatha, I am so glad that she seems to be moving with the times and a evolving to be a little less old fashioned than in some of the earlier books.

extremely silly but lots of fun

I agree with the other reviewers. There was something about this that was not up to par. I had just relistened to all the previous audio in preparation for this new audio book. I did try to enjoy it but there was something missing. I do not think the storyline was as great as other books. The main storyline (do not want to give anything away) grated on me. Penelope Keith was good as the narrator.

Did not engage me as the other books

I like Penelope Keith but she wasn’t great in this read.
