Publisher's Summary

'I just want to warn you. You're going to dive to the end of the cave. You're going to see these kids. They're all looking healthy and happy and smiley. Then, you're going to swim away, and they're probably all going to die.'

For 17 days, the world watched and held its breath as the Wild Boar soccer team were trapped deep in a cave in Thailand. Marooned beyond flooded cave passages after unexpected rains, they were finally rescued, one by one, against almost impossible odds, by an international cave-diving team which included Australians Dr Richard Harris and Dr Craig Challen.

These two men were chosen for their medical expertise and cave diving knowledge, but this dangerous rescue asked so much more of them. They had to remain calm under extreme pressure and intense scrutiny, adapt to constantly changing circumstances and, importantly, build trust among the rescue team and with the young boys and their coach, whose lives were in their hands.

Here is the story of these two Australian men who became international heroes - it is a story of determination, cunning and triumph that will long be remembered.

Love the Aussie slant

I listened to 2 other books that came out over the last year about the Thai rescue and was glued to the news while it was happening. Loved Harry & Craig’s version! These two are hilarious especially Dr. Harris. Definitely a must listen!

A heartwarming, humble and enspiring recollection

In Against All Odds, Craig Challen and Richard Harris pen a wonderful first hand account of the reality of the events surrounding the rescue of the Thai soccer team and their coach from the Tham Luang Cave system in Chang Rai. In an eloquently penned first hand account, and with excellent narration provided by Christopher Stollery and Simon Harvey, you’re in for a treat. Complete with Australian colloquialisms, and an honest and up-front expression that exposes it’s Australian influences - this book will be especially enjoyable to Australians such as myself, but equally so to readers all around the world. I smiled, laughed, even teared up at times - marveling at the humble perseverance, tenacity and ingenuity of these men. Throughout, both overtly and in the subtle focus of the authors on the events in Thailand, is the recognition that this was a massive team effort. Both authors are - to their absolute credit, and exemplifying their selfless personalities - careful to highlight the actions of the other rescuers, support staff and others who were so essential to the success of this operation. For anyone who showed an interest in the happenings during the event, to those who are interested in triumph over adversity - anyone wondering what true altruism is, despite potential consequence to self - this is an absolute must read.

Compelling, easy to follow and surprisingly modest

Loved it. The typical Aussie character of both guys came out, as did their desire to not be centre of the attention and recognise the wider team. Definitely worth the listen/read.
