Story
Twenty-three years ago, a young girl went missing. Two days later her body was found lodged beneath the footbridge over Boulder Creek. The murder shook the town but they soon found it was only the beginning. A serial killer hides among them - a serial killer who strikes twice, sometimes three times a year. Mason Cooper couldn’t wait to leave Gillette Park. At 18, she headed off to college and the bright lights of Los Angeles, thinking she'd never return home to the broken family and forgotten friendships she'd left behind.

Story
Jacqueline Keys was ostracized from her small hometown of Pine Springs, Texas, when she was 17, sent away because she was gay. Fifteen years later - long after she'd hitch-hiked to Los Angeles, put herself through college, and had written her first best seller - Jacqueline is persuaded to go back to the tiny town of Pine Springs after her father's death. The quick trip she'd envisioned for the funeral turns into weeks as she learns her father's business is suddenly hers to manage. And she is also again face-to-face with the woman who, as a teen, had been Jackie's first crush.

Sutton Spencer's ideas for her life were fairly simple: finish graduate school and fall in love. It would be a lot simpler if she could pinpoint exactly what she should do when she graduates in less than a year. Oh, and if she could figure out how to talk to a woman without feeling like a total mess, that would be great, too. Charlotte Thompson is very much the opposite.

Roll out those tropes Gerri
- By Linda Marea on 06-01-2021
Publisher's Summary
Workaholic Erin Ryder was on the fast track to self-destruction. Reeling after her lover walked out on her, she turned to booze and caffeine to make it through each day. After a family intervention, she finds herself on a remote ranch in New Mexico - on womyn’s land - to detox and heal. No cell service, no internet - she’s convinced she won’t last three days, much less for the three-month sentence her father has mandated.
Running from the chaos that had become her life, Melanie West moved to Eagle Bluff Ranch seven years ago. By far the youngest there, she embraced the compassionate, peaceful life that the elders espoused. Living off what her garden produced, her chickens and goats became her friends and confidants. Exposure to the outside world was limited to the handful of guests who stayed a few days at the ranch each year.
This summer would be different. Melanie found herself hosting a young woman for three months. A young woman who wanted to be anywhere but there. As the days and weeks passed, their animosity turned to friendship as they helped the other heal from their past failures.
Erin soon found herself loving life on Mel’s little farm. Loving life and loving Mel. Saying goodbye would be the hardest thing she had to do - saying goodbye to Mel...or saying goodbye to her previous life.

absolutely wonderful.
this story was just amazing. I loved the imagery Gerri Hill creates. the characters were beautiful and Nicol Zanzarella really brought them to life. I love her voice, her delivery. and as always Gerri Hill leaves me craving all the foods in her book. I love how it always plays a roll, and it sounds so good i want to try it. hopefully her next book could be a recipe book containing all the menus of all the stories. truly a great listen.

Classic Gerri Hill
By now those of us who listen to this author are familiar with the limited scope of her plot lines and this effort shows small variance. What the author does do quite well is to create three dimensional characters that I feel are easy to fall for. So spoiler warning here, there is a lot of Pelican's Landing in this book; indeed Erin has a much more believable motivation than Jordan Sims to return to her old life. It also contains no glaring inconsistencies or impossibly tangled motivations (Midnight Moon) that can limit the listener's enjoyment; at least slightly. This author's work continues to advance and I loved this one.

Satisfying romance
This is vintage Gerri Hill romance. One troubled stressed out city slicker gets sent to a remote womyn's commune where she has to detox from unhealthy work habits, caffeine, meat, digital devices and more. She is hosted by a woman with a difficult past, who loves the simple, solitary life she leads. I really enjoyed this and felt myself longing for the kind of life described in the book. The love story is sweet and satisfying. I haven't listened to a lot of Nicole Zanzarella's narrations, but this was really heartfelt and I want to look out for more by her.

Not for me. Be warned.
Big Gerri Hill fan. I wish there was some kind of warning, this book had to be written for the older fans of her out there. Yes the main characters are 37 and 33, but this book was deathly boring to me. I’m 33. The side characters are all 65 years old and up. Rough. They talk about farming, food and depressing things 90% of the book. They rehash the incredibly depressing past CONSTANTLY. I’m not joking. The exes, Sarah and Adam are mentioned at least once a chapter. This book is incredibly slow. It didn’t help that Zanzarellas monotone voice is so slow as well. The intimate scenes are muted, no overt descriptions etc. I wish someone else mentioned any of these things. I could’ve saved $20 and 9 hours. Yikes.

For the love of Womyn's Land
And the love of women. Once upon a time I traveled each August to get together with women from all over the world. It was womyn's land. Although it was only for a week, we sang and danced. We walked through the forests, saw old friends and made new ones. The night sky was magical, so many stars that could never be seen in a city. It refreshed my spirit and soul. Now I'm old and sadly that land is gone but I still think of and wish for Womyn's land. A place where my shirt comes off and I can feel the sun on my back and breasts. This book celebrates the joy of women together. The narrator is pretty awesome as she takes you to there. Makes me wonder if those magical places , most started in the 70's are still around? This book takes the listener to a place such as that, I highly recommend it.

Just OK
I love me some Gerri Hill, but if you have never heard one of her books, don't start with this one, go get "The Secret Pond". I did find this very listenable but I did not find the characters to be very interesting. Gerri's characters are often going through some really intense negative emotions and this book is no different, but where, I connected with the characters in "The Secret Pond", I did not so much in this book. If you have Audible Escape it is definitely worth a listen but if you have a spend a token, there are probably other books I would spend it on before this one. I love Nicol Zanzarella's narration and she did a great job on this book.

Gentle story
I really enjoyed this book - it was so different from anything else I have read. It almost made me want to pack up and move to New Mexico! The narrator's voice irritated me a little in the beginning but actually, she was perfect for the book. The only criticism is that the voices of the two main characters were very similar so it was difficult at times to tell who was speaking.
