KJ is a small town boy who moves from Greenville, Mississippi, to Chicago. He is mesmerized by the big city, bright lights, skyscrapers, and basketball. He finds interest in Paulina, a pretty brown skin girl in his fifth grade class. Hanging out with the older boys in the neighborhood leads KJ on the path to dropping out of school. He quickly forgets the promise he made to his grandmother to stay on track and make her proud.
