About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

Get ready for your next reading obsession, the spicy small-town romance filled with mystery and suspense from the New York Times bestselling author, perfect for fans of Elsie Silver and Colleen Hoover.

Braedyn Winslow never expected to return to Starlight Grove—the town that took everything from her. Not after her best friend, the one who’d sacrificed so much for her, vanished without a trace. But with a young son to raise and a past that won’t stay buried, Brae is back…and determined to uncover the truth.

She just didn’t count on the brooding, reclusive mountain man living next door.

Dex Archer is the stuff of local legend—silent, rugged, and surrounded by whispers of his and his brothers’ violent father. But Brae sees through the scowl and his parentage to the man beneath: fiercely loyal, unexpectedly kind…and just dangerous enough to protect her when someone starts warning her off her search.

The closer she gets to the truth, the harder it is to stay away from Dex. And as things get more perilous, Brae realizes the only person she can rely on is the one man who swore never to trust again.

Only someone isn’t happy that Brae has been digging, and they’ll do anything to stop her. But Dex? He’ll do anything to save her, even slip back into the dark.

I felt this book started off slow with character setup and then It became exciting with different things happening and action taking place. It actually blew away any expectations I might have had. Braedyn and Dex became my favourite couple. I love how Braedyn believed in him. I can't express how much I enjoyed the cast of narrators, they deserved applause 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼. Catherine sure can take the reader on an emotional rollercoaster. The ending had me in tears.

Slow at first, then blew me away

I loved book one in this brand new series by Catherine Cowles — I went in excited (especially after little glimpses of Dex in previous books) and it absolutely delivered.

I drove headfirst into this story and didn’t come up for air. It took me on a full emotional rollercoaster — I cried, I swooned, and yes… I was absolutely kicking my feet in delight.

Catherine just gets it when it comes to characters. Not only are the FMC and MMC incredible, but every single side character feels so alive and layered. It makes the whole town of Starlight Grove feel real, and I’m already completely invested in this series.

Brae is everything — strong and fierce, yet still so full of kindness and heart, even after everything she’s been through. And Owen? I just wanted to hug him the entire time. (Also… Yeti = best girl 🐾)

Dex… wow. The ultimate grumpy, broody yet nerdy (in the best way) man with a soft, protective core. The way he’s taken his darkness and turned it into something good? Top tier. His loyalty, his quiet care, and the way his whole family shows up for Brae and her son — it just melted me.

Add in the suspense, the found family vibes, and that slow-burn tension… and I’m all in for the Archer brothers series. No questions asked.

A lot of built up in the release of Dex's Story and it was worth the wait.

Getting to understand Dex's background and his family in their little town was great and how you can see what future storey's may be building.

I love Brae, her son and their awesome dog Yeti. Brae is definitely badass haha.

Definitely worth it 5/5

I adored this audiobook. It has a slow burn thats worth it. I fell in love with the Archer brothers, learning their story was heartbreaking but really sets up each character for future stories. But Brae & Dex were perfect. The banter and found family were just amazing. Also, I want my own treehouse and miniature pet cow. This is my first Catherine Cowles book and definitely won’t be my last. Let’s not forget the amazing narrators, each one brought their characters to life perfectly. Adam Gold as Maverick was my favourite for sure! Can’t wait for the next instalment in the Starlight Grove series!

Perfection

Finally ex-FBI hacker Dex Archer gets his own story. This is a great start to the new Archer brothers series. It brings all the things you can expect from Catherine Cowles - smart men who are complex without being awful, a tough independent woman who finds her place, stabby small town romance. The narration is excellent, especially with the other brothers voiced by some fave male narrators (can’t wait for their books).

Dex & Brae are perfect together
