Publisher's Summary

From critically acclaimed comedian Becky Lucas comes a funny, consoling, and very candid collection of stories and essays about friends, enemies, and figuring it out that establishes her as one of today's most original comedy writers.

There's no such thing as a perfect life, but there are perfectly hilarious moments. The best stories are often about the lowest points in our lives - the soul-crushing jobs, the bad boyfriends, the terrible holidays, the betrayals, and heartbreaks. These are the stories I tell people to make them like me, but, more importantly, they've helped me learn how to like myself.

So this book is a collection of thank-yous and acknowledgments:

  • Thank you to an ex-lover who marveled at the fact he could get hard with me, even though I wasn't up to his usual standard.
  • Thank you to the coked-up real estate agent who, while lecturing me and my friend about the importance of travelling, fell down a flight of stairs.
  • Thank you to the woman who approached me after a gig and told me she hoped her daughter wouldn't end up like me.

You've all taught me that you can't control who comes into your life or what happens to you, but you can decide just what it is you take from them.

Trivial gossiping trite. Very light on meaningful content or comedy.

I was a very big fan of Becky before reading this book, appreciating her undeniable wit.

But after reading Acknowledgements I have come to realise what a toxic, narcissistic, and immature young woman she is.

This is all the judgemental, trivial, and self-absorbed content you might expect from Becky, but with very little of the wit and cleverness that you’re used to with her comedy.

Her narration, however, is actually some of the best I have heard on Audible and is the saving grace of this audiobook. Her reading is very easy to engage with and sounds very natural compared to many other narrators.

Her writing style is also quite good. It’s the content, and the extreme difficulty in sympathising with the author which is the problem. I always assumed her jokes were just that. Jokes that she didn’t really mean. But after reading Acknowledgements it is clear that she really is a ‘Little Bitch’ who loves nothing more than bitching about other people and has committing character assassination down to an art form. Quite literally. I guess you can’t accuse her of false advertising.

She even uses the full real names of many of her victims. I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if she ends up on the wrong side of a defamation case after this book.

Look, if you are a bitchy narcissistic millennial woman, you will probably love this. But, if like me you have been a fan of Becky purely for her brilliant comedic mind, but assumed she was actually a kind person underneath all the biting jokes, this book is definitely not for you. And it will change your perception of her dramatically.

I simply just don’t like who she is as a person and it has really put me off her, even as a comedian. Despite her obvious talent.

outstanding book

full of relatable stories capturing nostalgia, humour and sometimes dark humour, well put together and enjoyable at every turn. far from boring as it's a series of short stories. I really enjoyed the format of this book. it made me think of who I have to thank for the lessons taught to me... however cruel or nice.
I was sad when the book ended as I wanted more!

#oopsIblabbedagain

the narrator had the writer's voice creepily perfect.

some smart acknowledgements amongst the recollection of factual comedic life occurrences that make up today's successful, yet still, you know, Becky Lucas.

Really cool book

I love Becky Lucas generally but this book exceeded all my (already high) expectations, really funny but thought provoking with a few heartfelt moments. I love the format being in small, easy to consume chunks which makes for a great listen in the shower or while doing dishes.
Sad it’s finished, wish there was more because I really thoroughly enjoyed it!
Being narrated by the author makes it even better.
