ஆதவன் 1942 ஆம் ஆண்டில் கல்லிடைக்குறிச்சியில் பிறந்தவர். இவருடைய மனைவியின் பெயர் ஹேமலதா சுந்தரம், பிள்ளைகள் சாருமதி, நீரஜா. இந்திய இரயில்வேயில் சில ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றிய பிறகு, தில்லியில் உள்ள 'நேஷனல் புக் டிரஸ்டின்' தமிழ்ப் பிரிவின் துணையாசிரியராகப் பல ஆண்டுகள் பணியாற்றினார்.
