Publisher's Summary

The devil you know is never the one you should trust.

Special Agent Patrick Collins is dispatched to Chicago, chasing a lead on the Morrigan’s staff for the joint task force. Needing a cover for his presence in the Windy City, Patrick is ordered to investigate a politician running for mayor. In the lead up to Election Day, not everything is what it seems in a city where playing to win means appeasing the gods first and the electorate second.

But Chicago brings its own set of problems outside the case: a standoffish local god pack, a missing immortal, and Patrick’s twin sister. Fighting Hannah and the Dominion Sect provides Patrick with a sinister reminder that some blood ties can never be cut.

Left behind in New York City, Jonothon de Vere finds himself targeted by hunters who will go through anyone to kill him - including the packs under his protection. With a bounty on his head, Jono is forced to make a choice that Patrick would never approve of. Doing so risks breaking the trust he’s built with the man he loves, but not acting will give the rival New York City god pack leverage Jono can’t afford to give up.

When Patrick and Jono reunite in Chicago, Patrick must confront the fraying of a relationship he’s come to rely on for his own sanity. But fixing their personal problems will have to wait - because Niflheim is clawing at the shores of Lake Michigan and the dead are hungry.

A Vigil in the Mourning is a 102,000 word m/m urban fantasy with a gay romantic subplot and a HFN ending. It is a direct sequel to A Crown of Iron & Silver. Listening the first book in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Loved this series so much

Everything I could want in an inclusive urban fantasy series. A little disappointed about the fat phobic comment in this book, but I've seen far worse in other books so I'll give it a pass for now. Adore the characters and I'm praying there's another on the way to give closure to the final plot threads.

PATRICK AND JONO! LOVE THIS SERIES!

After reading and listening to the first book in this series there was no way I was going to miss any additional books! So . . . I have purchased and listened to books 1 through 5 so far and have enjoyed all of them. Some of the reviewers have not cared much for the narrator . . . I found that he is perfect for this series! This entire series will be a re-listen for me. I highly recommend!

This One Killed The Series For Me

I couldn't finish this one. Hailey Turner apparently decided to make all the characters whiney (especially Johno, it's awful) except Wade. He's the only character I enjoyed. And she thinks all gay characters do is have sex. Huge blow up fight going on and they stop to have sex. It's basically soft core porn. They stop to have sex every chance they get. That's all this book is. Johno messes up, Patrick gets mad. Johno whines like a little girl. They have sex. I am officially done with this series.

Wade comes into his own..

For those following this series, Wade has been a wonderful oasis of comic relief. He has some choice moments in this book, plus the ongoing allure of this ongoing saga of a mortal mage, his noble werewolf lover, and the gods who continue to f#ck with their lives. Terrific performance by Gary Furlong, whose command of accents and vocal nuance brings these characters to life.

an absolutely must read/ listen to series

so before it even became available once I send it up here I pre-ordered this same with the actual book. I have to say that I used to pass up all the books. David kept popping up look for some reason I just have passing them up. until one day I decided what the heck I guess it wants me to buy it. so when I bought the normal regular book one I realized that there was an audiobook attached to it. so I decided why not just get the audio as well. I'm busy so I didn't get to physically read the actual book but I listen to the audio. and that was it, I was hooked. not just in the story. which by the way is amazing braids character-building world-building just overall a wonderful magical fantasizing extraordinary book. I what is 2 chapters in before I decided to go back on to the audible and Kindle and by the second one. and pre-order the Third. that is how amazing that book was. Not only was the book amazing but they chose the best narrator for it. after listening to this book I looked up the narrator because I fell in love with their voice because of this book. and a lot of my other purchases that I own are some this narrator. this book also was amazing as soon as I seen it for available for just a book I bought it or pre-ordered it anyway same what I noticed and I checked every day for the audible. and once became available I pre-order it. the author is an amazing talented writer and I just love this series of theirs. I just found book 5 of this series and pre-ordered the book I cannot wait the book 5 Audible. and I am sure that it will be as amazing as the last four have been. I can't wait. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves fantasy, Magic,Fae, vampires, werewolves and so on oh and yeah can't forget one Kick-Ass SOA red-haired agent.

Keeps getting better...

And it just keeps getting better and better. Hailey Turner's stories are engaging, enthralling, and encapsulates the imagination. I love Patrick and Jono as a couple and as alphas of the NY God pack. This story finds the duo in Chicago, facing another pantheon of Gods and the trouble that ensues, whilst looking for an object to ensure that Ethan does not get his wish. For those who have not yet read any of SOULBOUND series, might I suggest you do. Each story is better and better. I cannot say much without wanting to share all aspects of this story. I cannot wait for the next in the series, but alas I will have to. But I will listen to them again. Great series!!!!

5 Stars All The Way

This is the fourth book in The Soulbound Series. You do need to read the previous books to get the most out of this book. Once again, this author has earned a 5-star rating from me (I don’t give out many). It is a spellbindingly wonderful story that is written great. The worldbuilding is complex yet understandable. There is a plot for the series, but each book has their own plot and subplots that tie in to the main one. Very entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. The characters are diverse and well developed and thought out. Patrick and Jono are the MC’s of this book. The secondary characters are fantastic too. I love Wade and his growing character is fantastic. You get to see his development and who he is starting to be. There was humor, wolves, shifters, mythology, gods & goddesses, snacks, mystery, action and so much more in this book. I was already wanting book five before I was finished reading this book. The narration was good and made the book enjoyable. Out of the series I think that the narration in this book was the most expressive. I can highly recommend as a great read and listen. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.

Fantastic

This series is absolutely fantastic! This is the 4th book in the Soulbound series by Haliey Turner. These guys are everything...and this novel is sheer perfection! Turner really knows how to draw her audience in and make a statement...make you really care about her characters. This doesn't work great as a standalone so go back and start at the beginning. Loved every second of Gary Furlong's narration!

Excellent Story + Narration

Gary Furlong kills it again in this audiobook. His narration has always been one of my favorites and I think this would be one of the harder series to narrate simply because there are a lot of myths and gods and goddesses he has to learn how to pronounce. The voice for Wade is definitely my favorite, and only makes the character even more endearing. This was a fun story. Not in a comedic sense, but in terms of new characters, higher stakes, the mystery of the cases, and laying the groundwork for a god pack show down. What I love about this book is that you know that Patrick and Jono are good. They’re a unit as two alphas in a god pack and they love each other a lot. Jono says this is words, and Patrick says this with his actions. In this story, they’re split up with Patrick being sent to Chicago to help with a case (and handling an undercover one on the side) and Jono helping out packs that are turning to their side while fending off Estelle and Youssef. Trigger warnings for violence, murders, blackmail, death of a beloved beast. trading of souls, graphic depictions of a murder by hanging, and mentions of a fertility rite. What I loved about this book is that there’s a bigger mystery at play in this story than in the previous books that’s not too different from a regular murder mystery. Except in this one, there’s a shady politician and, unsurprisingly, the gods are involved. There’s a lot of mythical beings in these books from all sorts of cultures, and this one introduces some recognizable gods like Odom, Frigg, Thor, and the Valkyries, while also introducing Hinon – a Haudenosaunee thunder god. The Valkyries were a nice addition to this book. I loved their modern day depictions. I found the vampires to be a very interesting bunch and how they have vampires in charge of their own New York City boroughs. The plot twist really got to me because I wasn’t expecting it and I gasped out loud at that one. That was excellently done. This book was packed with a lot of action as well, in between the two cases Patrick was juggling in Chicago. And I thought everything happened a lot earlier in this book than in the previous ones (which was great). Sorry to the Bean in Chicago. I think it’s pretty much done for at this point. Jono had his own troubles to deal with in terms of the dispute over which god pack is THE New York City god pack. It’s been building up throughout the books, and Jono and Patrick have really been picking up a lot of packs as their own. So, we know something is going to go down at some point in this series, but it’s just a matter of WHEN. I think whatever needs to happen with the god packs will happen before we see a final showdown with Ethan, but I could be wrong. Ethan is a sneaky bastard, but eventually he’s going to run out of godheads to steal. Maybe. I loved Patrick and Jono in this book, of course. There is a little spat but doesn’t drag out too long. Wade is still a DELIGHT as he tries to eat Patrick and Jono out of all Marek’s tithes. He’s a much needed comedic break from the story that does tend to get dark at times. Poor Patrick is having a hell of a time in this book and it breaks my heart how much he loves his twin sister he’ll never see again because she’s been completely consumed by Macaria’s godhead. I will say I'm not sure about some of the more regional accents in this audiobook, say in Brooklyn and Chicago, but as someone who doesn't live in those areas, I couldn't say if they were spot-on or not. But the audiobook was still really enjoyable. I can’t wait to see what comes next in the Soulbound series!!

Exciting and fantastical world

To really enjoy this audiobook, I suggest listening to the first three in the series, you won’t regret it they are just as good as this one. Hailey Turner writes action, adventure and suspense unlike any other I’ve read so far. Turner has an incredibly ability to draw in listeners/readers with the story and keep you hooked. The characters are funny and endearing. Each with their own incredible personalities and quirks. The plot is insane and action packed! You never know what’s going to happen next and your never disappointed. Greg Furlong did an amazing job with this series, especially this book. Always crisp and clear, concise in tone and wording that the story comes off extremely well presented. From one scene to the next, Furlong bring life, passion and oomph to the story. You can tell he is really interested in the stories as he reads them, and as excited about what is happening as we are.

This series keeps getting better

I can’t believe how much I love this series! The paranormal world is truly at its best in this series, and this book tops them all! I absolutely LOVE the variety of characters and the relationships between them. Plus this book has truly everything: love, family, friends and action, all set in a great city that can be its own character! Gary Furlong does an outstanding job bringing these characters and their amazing story to life! This has easily become favorited mine to listen to!

It just keeps getting better!!

The world, the action, the twists and turns! This series is AMAZING! Another story, another case for Pat and another challenge to face with Jono at his side. I love the mythological detail and depth. every god and creature seems to have a roll, I look forward to the next adventure! Now I have to say, WADE is awesome! He's a standout in this story and adds a lightness to a somewhat heavy story with his unique humor and typical teenage behaviour. I think he's my favourite character at the moment and I can't wait to see him grow into his own! an unique and complex world and easily one of my all time favorite series!!! can't wait for the next one 😁

Magnificent!

This is another fantastic part of Patrick and Jono's story in Hailey Turner's alternate fantasy world. I love the mix of magic and myth. Wherever Patrick goes, trouble follows (or maybe he just unearths it), and this time Chicago is in the cross hairs. I love the way the Gods all come and go at will, and how they have adapted to exist in the modern world. I love Patrick and Jono! They still experience some growing pains in their relationship, and sometimes get pulled between wanting to protect each other and keeping communication open, but there can be no denying how much they love each other (even if Patrick can't say it.) Then there is Wade...dragon fledgling, pickpocket, always hungry, and a constant source of humor and amusement. He can be bratty and pouty, but he is also loyal and protective of Jono and Patrick when things get rough. I absolutely love this series, and hope Hailey gets the next one out soon. I want to know if Patrick will find a way to save his sister. The narration is always fantastic. I cannot say how impressed I am by the way Gary Furlong makes all those long and complex people and place names roll off his tongue like a second language. The sound editing is perfect, and I never hear a stumble or mistake. Really helps the listener get (and stay) immersed in the story. I received a free copy of this audiobook from Gay Romance Reviews and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Testing the Soul Bond

When Patrick is sent to Chicago on business, Jono is left in New York to defend his god pack. Being apart doesn’t work well for these two as they both get into some serious trouble. I watched that and counted down the minutes until they could be together – and then watched the metaphorical fireworks when each found out what the other had been up to without them. Hurt feelings and anger, anyone? Then the mother of all reunions. Poor Wade. And how is our friendly fledgling dragon doing? Well, he’s still eating continuously, getting into mischief, and then shifting when his help is really needed. So basically being Wade. Oh, and Hermes is up to his old tricks. The trickster indeed. This book is fast-paced and full of gods, vampires, wolves, and everything else I’ve come to expect from Ms. Turner’s Soulbound series. At times I would almost get lost then I’d be anchored by some point of reference. Also, I had high hopes something good might come from Hannah’s reappearance. Patrick’s twin sister isn’t faring well these days. So, yeah, action, adventure, the mother of all showdowns in the windy city, and a satisfactory ending. Everything I was expecting. I will say that fortunately I’ve read the three previous books as I think this is a series you need to read in order. Could someone with an agile mind and an ability to absorb many characters do okay? Sure. But it’s so much more fun to follow these two and their merry band from the beginning. As always, I have to give a shout out to Gary Furlong. As a narrator he’s everything you would wish for when you’ve got dozens of characters with a myriad of accents. He delivers another tour de force performance. I’m glad I listened and I can’t wait to see what these guys get up to next.

More adventures with the gangs

Another exciting installment in the series. The adventure is nicely balanced with the relationship. Although I prefer it when Patrick and Jono are fighting together. Can't wait for the next installment.
