Publisher's Summary

Summer comes to Ireland, and an uneasy peace holds at Loch Garman. The Northmen, eager to get to sea, work relentlessly on their ships, with the aid of their unlikely allies, the Irish, who are just as eager to see them go. But not everyone is willing to just let them sail away.

Certain that God demands the heathens be punished, the one-eyed warrior turned monk Brother Becc is determined that Thorgrim and his men will not simply go free. And when another band of raiders arrives, Becc finds the excuse he needs to take action.

Meanwhile, in the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex, murder leads to a violent struggle for the seat of ealdorman, ruler of the shire of Dorset. Desperate as each side is to tip the balance of power their way, no one imagines the upper hand might come from the direction they least expect - from the sea.

A Look at Viking Life

Well written and fairly fast moving, this story paints a good picture of early life in Ireland and England during Viking invasions.

I've already purchased the remaining books, looking forward to the 2020 tome, as well. Well done!

worst narration i have ever listened too.

i have listened to many books read by shaun grindell. and all the books before this in this series. so i didnt feel the need to give it a prelisten as i usually do.
i wish i had. because it honestly sounds like the narrator is having a stroke all the time during this book. its jarring and annoying. what a waste

Required reading

Great adventure book and a wonderful addition to the series (cannot wait until #9 is ready). The voice talent used is perfect, boy, did audible ever do a fine job. James Nelson is in his groove. It is rhythmic, almost poetic and musical. Perfect for a Viking tale that is told over and over, and when enough generations pass....it becomes LEGEND.

And now, for a cup of ale.

Transitional

This felt like a transitional book in its story.
There were some very good high points and the story keeps moving.
I'm eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. The character development in the side-plot and the ending will make the next entry really good from a character interaction point of view.
