Publisher's Summary

Jake Brigance, the protagonist of John Grisham's classic legal thriller A Time to Kill, is back. This time he's at the epicentre of a sensational murder trial that bitterly divides the citizens of Clanton, Mississippi.

John Grisham's A Time to Kill is one of the most popular novels of our time. It established Jake as a classic American hero - a lawyer who sought truth and justice at all costs, even when his life and reputation were on the line.

Brigance returned in 2013's Sycamore Row, in which he once again found himself embroiled in a deeply divisive trial.

Now, in A Time for Mercy, Jake is the court-appointed lawyer for Drew Gamble, a young man accused of murdering a local deputy. Many in Clanton want a swift trial and the death penalty, but Brigance sees it another way. Once he learns the details of the case, he realises he has to do everything he can to save Drew...who is 16. His commitment to the truth puts Jake's career and the safety of his family at risk.

Filled with all the courtroom machinations, small-town intrigues and plot twists that have become hallmarks of the master of the legal thriller, A Time for Mercy emphatically confirms John Grisham's reputation as America's favourite storyteller.

There is a time to kill, a time for justice, and a time for mercy.

A hard hitter for the ages

This, like all John Grishams novels, has been an absolutely spell binding story told by a master at his craft. The ending leaves us teased almost with the promise of a future book. And I will pre-order and listen to it start to finish in record time as I did this one. what a master. thanks John.

Fabulous

I totally enjoyed this book I feel like John Grisham has come back to himself again. There were a few duds in the middle of his career but this one was incredibly good and I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Brilliant, shame about the Scottish accent!

This was an amazing story and brilliant audio with wonderful believable American accents throughout the book! However, I've lived on a Scottish island for 30 years and even as an incomer found the Scottish accent in this audio unbelievably awfull and embarrassingly painfull to listen too! It was frankly dreadfull and I can't believe nobody picked up on the unsuitability of the reader!

Perfect road trip novel

As much as I like a shocking plot twist or waiting for various timelines to converge, sometimes I want to be taken along a linear journey of a story and John Grisham excels at this. Even though there is nothing groundbreaking in this latest visit to Clanton, it was a thoroughly engaging story and felt like catching up with people you've not seen for ages. If you like Grisham, pull up a chair you'll be right at home, if you don't, this probably won't change your mind. Michael Beck is on top form, maybe not so much on the Scottish accent, but his overall performance would make me recommend the audiobook over the actual printed versions.

Best John Grisham book in a long time

Wow, I literally couldn’t stop listening. I managed the whole 20 hours in 3 days between working. The ending was a little disappointing. But I will definitely listen to it again.

Not sure about the Scottish accent...

I Love michael Beck’s narration due to the variety of Southern State American accents giving life to the story characters but Michael struggled with the Scottish accent in this book. Didn’t detract from the story but raised a smile each time I heard it. That said, still a very enjoyable book.

Its John Grisham....

You know that synonymous with a John Grisham novel is a well thought out and brilliantly presented story. This is no different. Another from the very top drawer.
