About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The unputdownable bestseller from Shari Lapena, author of THE COUPLE NEXT DOOR and EVERYONE HERE IS LYING

Why would you run scared from a happy home?

You're waiting for your beloved husband to get home from work.

You're making dinner, looking forward to hearing about his day.

That's the last thing you remember.

You wake up in hospital, with no idea how you got there. They tell you that you were in an accident; you lost control of your car whilst driving in a dangerous part of town.

The police suspect you were up to no good. But your husband refuses to believe it. Your best friend isn't so sure. And even you don't know what to believe . . .

Critic Reviews

So many dizzying twists you'd better not drive after reading
The plot twists in Shari Lapena's A Stranger in the House made me shout "No!" out loud. Shari expertly traps you, confounds you and leaves you gasping at the end. More, please . . .
Smart, twisty and compulsive. Suspense and suspicion accumulate relentlessly, toying with your expectations and your emotions right up until the packs-a-punch ending. Don’t miss it, and don’t expect to be able to put it down
Hard to put down.
A smart and twisty thriller . . . It's taut, intelligent and compelling.
Tense.
Creeping sense of dread throughout . . . A firecracker of a plot twist.
Smart crime thriller packed with twists and turns which keep you guessing until a powerful ending that really packs a punch.
With its slow-burning plot and gradual, totally unpredictable reveal, this looks set to be another bestseller.
Dark and twisty.

after listening to a couple next door I was hoping this would be just as good. I was almost rolling my eyes half way through as it seemed so obvious where the book was going then bam! the twist came in and another and another. this is now in my top 10 👌

oh how I love a book with a good twist

An easy ‘listen’, but a bit disappointing after reading The Couple Next Door. This is a fairly predictable psychological thriller where (frustratingly) the main character has amnesia and the slow reveals, as her memory returns, are things you’ve probably already guessed. All characters were pretty boring, but none so much as Tom - he was so benign and, quite frankly, an idiot.
I was hoping for a big twist at the end, and although there were some small surprises, it fell flat.

It’s ok
