About this listen
Revenge is a fire that burns bright in the epic finale of the Sunday Times bestselling duology that began with A Fate Forged in Fire.
Aemyra Daercathian is a queen on the run. Having failed to take Àird Lasair and betrayed by her husband - whom she grew to trust and and was beginning to fall for during her time in captivity - Aemyra is forced to retreat with a raging desire for revenge. But before she can settle the score and fulfill a sacred promise to kill Fiorean, her forces must rest and replenish their strength.
No one can know the truth.
Even though Aemyra has a fierce dragon and a large army of elemental wielders called Dùileach standing behind her, she has lost what's most important to her - her fire magic. Haunted by her love for her enemy, and unsure if she is even goddess-blessed anymore, Aemyra vows to do right by her people. Even if that means she must make a new kind of alliance, one that could mean winning back her kingdom. At a cost to her heart...
From the ashes, Aemyra must emerge as a new kind of queen, but will she be the dawn for her people or the fire that burns everything to the ground?©2026 Hazel McBride (P)2026 Hodder & Stoughton Limited
Critic Reviews
A magnificent conclusion to McBride's epic, feminist fantasy. A story gorgeous, violent, chaotic, in which 'all is fair in love and war' is taken to new and literal extremes. Aemyra's growth drives the narrative as she learns the human cost of war and what it truly means to rule. McBride deftly weaves political machinations, romance, and truly epic battles on dragon back; this book is a full sensory experience, addictive and action-packed.
I could read a hundred novels set in the world Hazel McBride has created - steeped in Celtic mythology, it's so vivid it feels like a character itself! After Fiorean's betrayal, I was rooting for Aemyra as she rose from the ashes and became a true queen. A Queen Crowned in Flames is an epic and satisfying conclusion!
A Queen Crowned in Flames is a sizzling, cinematic finale that raises all of the stakes from book one. We follow Aemyra on her journey to claim her rightful throne, battling through betrayal and bloodshed. But the toughest battle Aemyra must face is within herself and McBride explores this character growth with such depth and honesty, making us fall even more in love with our feisty, fiery queen. A thrilling conclusion to this epic duology that is sure to leave hearts racing (for more reasons than one!).
A Queen Crowned in Flames is a scorching, triumphant finale that is equal parts epic and unforgettable. A masterful exploration of fury, love, and the fire it takes to rise as a queen. I will devour anything Hazel McBride writes.
A Queen Crowned in Flames is a stunning conclusion to Aemyra's story. The perfect mix of female rage, revolution and a love strong enough to burn down a world - and remake it anew.
This scorching sequel digs its teeth in from page one and never lets go. The dragons? Epic. The men? Kneeling before their fiery queen, where they belong. A Queen Crowned in Flames solidifies McBride as a fresh, pulse-pounding voice in romantic fantasy, and I can't wait to see where her world takes us next.
