Publisher's Summary

A profoundly moving and inspiring memoir from Australia's domestic violence crusader, Rosie Batty.

Rosie Batty knows pain no woman should have to suffer. Her son was killed by his father in a violent incident in February 2014, a horrendous event that shocked not only the nation but the world. Greg Anderson murdered his 11-year-old son, Luke, and was then shot by police at the Tyabb cricket oval. Rosie had suffered years of family violence and had had intervention and custody orders in place in an effort to protect herself and her son. She believes the killing was Greg's final act of control over her.

Since the events of last February, Rosie has become an outspoken crusader against domestic violence, winning hearts and minds all over Australia with her compassion, courage, grace and forgiveness.

In the wake of the tragedy, Rosie's advocacy work has forced an unprecedented national focus on family violence, with the Victorian Labor government establishing Australia's first royal commission into family violence and committing a further $30 million over four years to protect women and children at high risk of family violence. Then Victorian police commissioner Ken Lay called it 'the Rosie Batty factor'. In January 2015, Rosie was named Australian of the Year 2015.

Inspiring, heartfelt and profoundly moving, this is Rosie's story.

Remarkable

Rosie is an inspiring woman, her story is painful and remarkable and very eye opening.

Hopefully the awareness that Rosie has raised for family violence has made a difference in the treatment of the victims. I listened on in horror to some of the things Rosie and Luke had to endure as a result of an underfunded & broken system.

inspiring and educating

thank you for sharing your story, Rosie. It was sad to read the long and frustrating story that led to that terrible day when Luke was killed. Already an inspiration on change in relation to domestic violence, this book clearly shows the lengths people go to control, and amount of gaps in the system to protect children and seek the right support for those involved.

Amazing Grace

How can we fully comprehend the worry, stress, anxiety, fear, trauma and tragedy experienced by victims of violence? We can't... unless we have been through it however reading Rosey's in-depth, heart felt account a reader will better understand the background and circumstances leading up to Luke's murder but with memories of sunny patches of pure love for her darling Son expressed by his Mother along the way.

Good listen.

I enjoyed listening to this heartbreaking story. It made me cry. It was interesting to hear about what happened in the lead up to that very terrible day. It was something I had heard about in the media when it happened so I was interested to hear how such a tragedy could unfold.

Tragic content but fascinating story I was hocked

I couldn't stop listening. I knew the headline, but found Rosie's story tragic, gripping and unfortunately not uncommon to other intimidate partner abuse.

Heartful

Really enjoyed listening to Rosie read her own words with her voice breaking only once at one of the most important moments. “Celebrity for all the wrong reasons” couldn’t have been more true. So sorry for your story, Rosie. Continue to have strength and advocate!

The beautiful resilient extraordinary Rosie Batty

There are not enough words to describe how extraordinary Rosie Batty is. I was so moved by her gift of sharing her story so openly and selflessly in the hope that it will make a difference to women and children experiencing family violence. I was moved to tears so many times. I found myself in awe of Rosie’s strength, resilience and courage. We are so lucky to have this beautiful soul making a difference day in and out so selflessly to advocate and make the shift that is so desperately needed to end family violence. We are so lucky to have you Rosie. Thank you for being you and for doing everything you do!

very informative

A very moving story . so sad that with the right help and support Luke might not have been murdered by his father. Audibles comment at the end 'hope you have enjoyed this book' I found totally inappropriate they should have said 'hope you have found this book informative' or something along those lines .
