About this listen

In the cut-throat game of court life, masters manipulate pawns—and you never know which one you are. One thing is certain: there's no space on the board for love.

A penniless noblewoman, Kat is on the verge of losing everything when she's offered a well-paid job that could be her salvation… or her ruin. Drawn into court's deadly intrigues, she's given a single task: spy on the powerful fae lord known as the Night Queen's Shadow.

Bastian Marwood is handsome, ruthless, and cunning, but Kat can't decide if he's a threat to her kingdom or just her heart. To uncover the truth, she must play a dangerous game of desire and deceit, pushing him to reveal his secrets while protecting her own. But Bastian's shadows have a hold on her—one she isn't sure she wants to escape.

Kat soon learns that at court, nothing is as it seems, and even the best-laid plans can be destroyed in an instant. As a pawn on the board, she can't afford to fall victim to love—only fight for survival.

A Kiss of Iron is the first book in a new series featuring court intrigue, a morally grey hero, and an unforgettable enemies-to-lovers romance. Perfect for fans of Gild and From Blood and Ash.

Loved the overall chemistry of characters and story line
Only dislike, male narrator was pretty monotone

Love! The chemistry between the main characters is amazing

Likes: Dirty daddy talk.
Dislikes: lots of teasing with abrupt interruptions. If you like edging this is for you.

Unfiltered view into mental illness. Ending with a twist.

The story was enjoyable
Kat was a bit annoying at times going over and over her reasoning all the time. I loved that the narrators have a British accent, it's a nice change to other audiobooks

Enjoyable

Really enjoyed the storyline and the storytelling. Totally worth the read and getting in hard copy.
Has that historical romance feeling that’s always interesting combined with fantasy.

Fantastic story

I read several reviews that this book was very similar to ‘From Ash and Blood’ series, which made me hesitant. I really didn’t enjoy from Blood and Ash but decided to try A Kiss of Iron. Honestly the book was unique and had very little that was similar to From Blood and Ash. Sophisticated plots and the right amount of romance. The pace of the book is on the slower side but moves along fast enough to continue to capture my attention. It had some of my favourite tropes including forced proximity (including one bed), enemy to lovers, forbidden love, Fae shadow MMC, to name a few. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in the series!
There are strong references to child abuse and subsequent PTSD, so that may be a trigger for some readers.

A surprising treasure. I loved the characters especially how the FMC was full figured we need more of them. The twists were actually surprising I didn’t see many coming. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series

Okay I really liked this! I enjoyed the characters and the plot. I was captivated from the beginning.

If you want a slow burn with a lil bit of edging ( LOL ) then this is for you. Honestly, it keeps you wanting more but not in a bad way.

I picked this up on a whim and I do not regret it, great read, great plot. I enjoyed every bit of it.

Sloooow & yearning

Good story. Lots of twists and turns and enough intrigue to send me to the second book!
However, I’ll be reading the physical version of the next book because in one chapter (literally just the epilogue) I realised I wouldn’t be able to listen to a full book with that male narrator…

Kept me listening!

I thought it dragged on and repetitive when Kat explaining her reasons for her betrayal. Annoying hope the next book has more action to the story

I was looking for something in the fantasy/romantic genre - it did not disappoint. I hope they make this into a movie
