Graham Norton's debut novel, Holding, was a Sunday Times best seller and loved everywhere. His new novel, A Keeper, is a twisted tale of secrets and ill-fated loves that once again demonstrates Norton's understanding of human nature and all its darkest flaws.

The mystery of Elizabeth Keane's father is one that has never been solved by the people of Buncarragh - not for lack of speculation. Her mother, Patricia, had been assumed a spinster until she began dating a mysterious man from out of town and within months had left Buncarragh and had married.

Less than two years later, Patricia was back, with a new baby in her arms but no new husband by her side and unbendingly silent about her recent past. A secret she would take with her to her grave.

Now, as Elizabeth returns to the village after her mother's funeral, bringing with her her own regrets and wounds, she finds a thin pile of ribbon-bound letters at the back of a wardrobe that may at last hold the key to her past:

Dear Lonely Leinster Lady,
I'm not really sure how to begin....

Another winner from Graham

Fantastic characters and dialogue. The story turns bleak as we find out the history behind Elizabeth’s birth and her father’s circumstances make it almost impossible not to forgive him for his part in the events.

The end was a bit sentimental for my taste but perhaps most people will think it brought things together well across the three generations.

The decision to have Graham narrate his own work has again paid off as he brings such life to all the characters he creates.

persevere, it's worth it!

After a few attempts to start I started again during a quiet time with no distractions. Once I got the characters in my head the story took off and I loved the twists and turns, the settings, the humour and the tale. Beautifully performed and very entertaining.

A Keeper in name and in action.

Beautifully written book and the narration was great. This is a very gentle book but with quite a dark story if that makes any sense at all. It’s not a book that you can write anything about without giving away the plot. Let’s just keep it to it’s an enjoyable way to spend 8 hrs.

Loved it

I became addicted to listening to this book. Being a fan of graham norton, it was a delight to listen to me and the story was great.
I’ve since downloaded another of his books and I’m trying to save that to listen to on my 20 hr flight to the UK.

Keeper worth keeping

I just loved this book and went scurrying to find others by Graham.
I mean, who knew?....I was a bit reluctant being a book by a 'personality' - but he is a wonderful writer, narrator, storyteller....and comedian, and TV host, and vigneron, and probably a great all-round bloke as well.

Man of surprises

I only knew Graham Norton as the well dressed, slightly naughty, and delightfully funny talk show host.
I should not have been surprised that he could weave a tale with nice plot twists, endearing (ok, one was bat shit crazy) characters. Great narration, hearing his brogue takes me back to Belfast. Nicely done

Totally enjoyable!

Funny, exciting, serious and mysterious. Graham is amazing at writing how woman think and describes things so perfectly you feel like you are with the characters. And listening to him read it is an extra bonus. I liked his first novel and I loved this one! Can’t wait for him to release another!

Wonderful!

I’ve been in an Audible rut lately, unable to find an audiobook that can keep my interest. Well, Graham Norton to the rescue! The book was gripping and I found myself driving the long way home just to hear more of the story! I almost wish Mr Norton would give up TV and write full time.

Absolutely “smashing”

Another splendid yarn by a genius with words, storytelling and performing. I almost wish Norton had begun his book-writing career earlier in his life so I could have a shelf of his works to keep me entertained. This one, as the title suggests, is “a keeper.” With a delightful ‘then” and “now” format, he tells us a story of a woman trying to put some affairs in order as she learns, through a series of startling discoveries, that nothing is as it seems. It’s a mystery that is unveiled in the same steps it is solved. I couldn’t seem to put it down when I suddenly realized that it was closer to being finished than I was. I will enjoy it many more times. What a treasure Graham Norton is!

Definitely...A Keeper.

Graham Norton’s second novel is as good, if not better than the first. Very different, not a detective story this time, but so eloquent. He paints a picture instantly. His voice matches the texture and depth of his words. The storyline is gentle but yet it never stalls and it is so cleverly woven between the past and future, that you want to hear more. Very clever, Mr Norton....this book is an absolute delight.

Excellent book

An exciting, intriguing, atmospheric read. It's depth of humanity is breathtaking and human frailities come very much to the fore. Also there is the sprinkling of humour which is added very discreetly. Definitely going on my favourite book list and so loved Graham reading it. Thanks Graham looking forward to your next book / audio.

A Keeper kept me listening

I enjoyed Graham reading this book to me. His voices were just right and really brought the tale to life. It was an intriguing opening which raised questions, some of which kept me guessing right until the last couple of chapters.
Occasionally is was confusing as we went from THEN to NOW, quite frequently, but not a major problem.
Overall very enjoyable listening which kept me happily diverted on a couple of long drives.

Really good take

I loved this book. Enjoyed Graham Norton’s first book but this was even better. The story was quite compelling and it was lovely to have Graham reading it. Lots of twists and turns along the way. Highly recommended.
