Critic Reviews

'Twisty, compulsive and so, so, clever', Savannah Brown, author of The Truth About Keeping Secrets

'This book was a delight from start to finish. I laughed. I cried. And I very much enjoyed attempting to solve the case with Pip (who I now want to be my best friend). I didn't guess the twist, and I don't think many people will. Holly Jackson has absolutely killed it with her debut!', Aisha Bushby, author of A Pocketful of Stars and contributor to the award-winning A Change is Gonna Come

'That ending! Pure genius', Yasmin Rahman, author of All the Things We Never Said

'In a League of its Own', Lucy Powrie, author of The Paper & Hearts Society

'A Twisty, compelling UK YA debut', Fiona Noble, The Bookseller

Such a good story! Kept me guessing until the end. The characters are all believable and the narrator is very good. I’ve listened to lots of audiobooks and this narrator is one of the best.

Brilliant!

From the other reviews I thought I’d love the narration but it was like nails on a chalkboard, particularly when voicing Cara and her dad. Good story, got through it quickly!

Great story, hated the narration

Kept me guessing the entire book. Lots of twists and turns and I couldn’t stop listening! Great storyline and lots of different characters adding to the story, and a good ending too. Highly recommend

I usually get scared that I’ll cringe the whole time when I listen to a YA. But this was highly entertaining and kept me on my toes with realistic characters. Give it a go.
Narrator is a bit slow so I listened on 1.25 and it seemed better paced then.

Give it a go !

I didn't realise this was a YA until I started reading it. That's OK because it turns out that it was not a silly YA but a well thought out, well written, and gripping murder mystery. (Let me point out that I've read some amazing YA books but I've also read some tedious, eye rolling, cringe YA.)

There are plenty of suspects in this case for Pip and Ravi to sort through. Just when you think you know, you don't. Nutting out all of the goings-on (and there was a lot going on in these teenagers lives) was interesting and keeps you guessing the whole time.

I love Pip's maturity and the relationship she has with her parents. Just beautiful. Similarly, her budding friendship with Ravi is refreshingly professional with a hint of will they get together. There's no love sick teenage angst blurring the lines and messing with the mission to solve the cold case.

I highly recommend this book and will seek out the other titles in this series.

A well thought out murder mystery

Not only is this story an excellent one in terms of plot, with complex characters and well-developed relationships, but it's also incredibly well performed and produced. Phone interviews in the story and production logs on the main character's project are denoted by different recording quality, and the main characters have distinct voices which make following conversations noticeably easier. I cannot recommend this audiobook, or the two which come after it in the series, highly enough.

Best produced audiobook I've ever listened to!

This book was made to be an audiobook. The way it was written and read made you feel like you were listening to real audio notes. Overall story line which didn’t feel slow. Ending was a bit soft, but nice.

Exciting and incredible performance
