Brilliant thriller!

A really good story, narrated well with believable accents.

The plot is very good. When you think you have the hang of it, another twist will turn your theories upside down.

All of the characters are inter-related by some way and the final plot twist is a cracker.

Completely recommended

Implausible plot, unattractive characters

I jumped at the chance to listen to this book having been very impressed by the author's books, Relentless and Severed. However, A Good Day to Die, wasn't as good. There isn't a sympathetic character in the story e.g., the "hero" ex-cop Milne of the story has become a contract killer! I'm willing to suspend belief over the daring-do exploits in stories, but this book goes just too far. The justification for Milne risking his life again and again is weak and his repeated escapes from tough guys implausible.

Great twists and turns from start to finish

This was my third audio by kernick and i loved it. He has a great writing style and you feel like you get to know the characters. The lead character is by no means a good person but you cant help wanting things to go his way. Will have you gripped untill the end. Give it a go if you like suspense it won't disappoint.

Dave king triumphs once again

The narrator Dave King brings this fast paced, clever and very enjoyable book alive. It runs for ten hours and I listened to it in just three sittings, superb.

Another cracking good yarn

This book picks up the story of Kernick's anti-hero from his 1st novel "The Business of Dying". In an interview after the audible download of "Relentless" Simon Kernick said that whilst his books were not a series he does bring characters and plot lines back. All his books are stand alone, but I found it quite satisfying that I had read the "The Business of Dying" as the back references made far more sense. If you are thinking of getting Relentless, which is a great book, I would recommend that you get this one first, although as I said previously not essential. As another reviewer mentioned, Milne is an unpleasant character, but somehow you're rooting for him, perhaps because all the other villans are so must worse. Really good plot with quite unexpected twists, and possibly the worst breaking and entering description, just would not work in a modern house, but that's just me being picky! Very well read with excellent charactisation. Highly recommended.
