About this listen

In the long, hot summer of 1976 Adam, Rufus, Shiva, Vivien and Zosie are camping at Wyvis Hall. They don’t ask why they are there or how they are to live; they simply scavenge, steal and sell the family heirlooms.

Ten years later, the bodies of a woman and child are discovered in the Hall’s animal cemetery. But which woman? And whose child?

The audio aspect. A good book made confusing by the narrator.
You are listening and think is it now or before. Confusing. There wasn’t a pause between reading about the past and present day. It switches all the time and the narrator needed to breathe a bit when there was a time sequence change!!!

Interesting story. Stands the test of time.

I usually enjoy Barbara Vine novels, this was a bit slow and drawn out. I wasn’t a fan of the narrator- and something must have gone astray in the recording- as the usual speed, 1.0 was actually speeded up. Needed to adjust speed to 0.9 for normal speech.

Speed of narration too fast
