Loveable but not Memorable

Young adults si-fi.
Narrator was my favourite part, I think she spiced up the intrigue.
Fairly funny, Satisfying action & gadgets, angst free.
Could almost have been a Firefly fanfiction.
Set in the same universe maybe?
Only negative thing is the romance the hero never resolves, but obsesses over.

A politically diverse sci-fi

I found this to be a gripping and interesting sci-fi for how politically explorative it was.
Two people who couldn't be from worlds and politics any more different who find common ground and their increasing closeness carries a simple yet expanding plot.

I won't spoil it. But the overall plot was very simple but smoothly elegant. The narration was also excellent! The characters were wonderfully rich in their uniqueness thanks to the narration.

The only thing I would have thought would have really enhanced this story would have been more backstory about Humanity leaving Earth.

Regardless; great story!

Enjoyable story and good performance.

An easy listen with a nice mix of action, humanity and touch of politics. The humour worked well, never feeling forced or over done. Kate Reading's narration is great and is well suited to Lindsay Buroker's writing style. This is an enjoyable adventure in space with likeable characters and I look forward to reading more books in the series.

EXCELLENT. WELL WRITTEN AND PERFORMED

Fantastic space opera. I love the protagonists. Lots of action and a little romance thrown in. Alisa, the fighter pilot of the Alliance and Leonidas, the cyborg colonel of the empire had to work together to get to their goals. Along the way they have to escape from their enemies. A very well written series with witty dialogue , intrigues and politics in the mix. A boxed set of 3 books is really worth the credit. I will be continuing book 4 and I hope book 5 will come out soon.

I blame this for why I fell behind in work

One of the absolute best stories I've listened to in years. Rich character, intriguing plot, witty banter, and unpredictability at every turn. I truly hope the next omnibus is available or I will have to start this again.

Worth the effort

Be patient! This is a little slow to start but the characters are great and the adventure is epic. The narrator a mostly perfect although she mispronounces a few words which can be haaard.

Fun, not a narrator fan...

The story was enjoyable, but the narrator’s style is weird, like she’s not fully aware of what she’s actually reading.

Not too bad

it was a pretty good story but don't expect too too much, humor was a little corny. if there's more books after these 3 books I might listen to those as well.

Disappointed by the Crude Humor

I like clean science fiction and had high hopes for this author based on other reviews. Unfortunately, this has a lot of crude humor. Don't get this book if you are looking for clean literature.

I enjoyed the story concept, but...

...in my opinion, the development was not well done!

First, a lot of the story was in the background narration, with a lot of introspection, remembrances, etc., and they would be repetitive, both in the first book and subsequent books! This constant background narrative bothered me the most since it was often happening during an active part requiring total focus or be killed! I have listened to other authors who have done the same, and it is frustrating to be in the middle of a battle and then the background narrative kicks in reminiscing some previous life event!

Many parts of the story were great, but several parts were not. The author would develop a scenario that was unbelievably not survivable, then do the same to make it work out! Of course, a lot of this added to the excitement of the story.

The second book started in on the development of romantic thoughts, which I did not care for!

And finally, the third book started emphasizing the romantic thoughts more pervasively!

There are several other parts of the story with which I had problems, but I will no belabor the points more.

However, I will purchase the next books to continue the story!

FireFly meets starwars. Not bad. A lot borrowed.
Not much of this feels original to me, but the story is fun and the voice acting isn't bad. If you like FireFly, this will feel quite familiar.

very well written and performed

good books, very easy to listen to and follow the plot. if it was not an omnibus, I guess the individual books may have been of somewhat lower content/price ratio against similar titles, but as it is - very good listening for not very much money.

Generic

The main problem with this book was that a number of plot twists were recognisable from other books/films of the same genre - which loses the originality feel. Other than that the characters were fine and it is a lighthearted listen,

great world building and interesting characters

I am now 6 books in and I just wanted to come back and review this series - its great and I see my self buying all the books in the series eventually.

This series reminds me of "The Emperor's edge" series by Lindsay (only the best steam punk series of all time) which was available as an iTunes podcast for free - I never understood why the whole series isn't available in an audio format but there you go...
- exciting locations
- clever escapes
- larger political plot

I think I love all the dialogue between Alisa and the engineer its sass on sass and therefore just awesome.

A nice twist to standard SciFi
Nice to have sci- fi seen from a female perspective. The narrator brings all the different characters to life with great skill, really enjoyed listening.

Similar to Expanse

Loved this, a great easy listen. If you like The Expanse series you'll like this. Not too serious with technical sci-fi but very well read and although the characters are fairly obvious they are charming and grow on you. And it made me smile.

Loved the books

I have to say I loved this and even got butterflies in my tummy in the epilogue of book 3. Now I HAVE to get the rest because I need to know what happens.

Space chickens, futuristic-mushroom eating- hippy, an android, a doctor/monk on a mission, a security officer dreaming of being a galactic sauce superstar who's running away from the space mob, a lesbian mechanic and a captain just trying to find her daughter. It's brilliant!!

The only fault I can find is the narrator. Unfortunately there really isn't much in the way of character distinction which can get VERY confusing. Also she has a weird way of emphasising parts of a sentence that sometimes you think there is more to come and sometimes it's as though she's just cut off... Very strange. Thankfully the story is strong enough to keep you going.
