At the heart of the of the Christian faith are things that are meant to have happened in Palestine between 5 BC and AD 30. Story
>The Screwtape Letters, now in its 70th anniversary year, is an iconic classic on spiritual warfare and the power of the devil. This profound and striking narrative takes the form of a series of letters from Screwtape, a devil high in the Infernal Civil Service, to his nephew Wormwood, a junior colleague engaged in his first mission on Earth trying to secure the damnation of a young man who has just become a Christian. Although the young man initially looks to be a willing victim, he changes his ways and is ‘lost’ to the young devil.

Publisher's Summary
A Doubter's Guide to Jesus is an introduction to the major portraits of Jesus found in the earliest historical sources. Portraits because our best information points not to a tidy, monolithic Jesus, but to a complex, multi-layered and, at times, contradictory figure. While some might be troubled by this, fearing that plurality equals incomprehensibility or unreliability, others take it as an invitation to do some rearranging for themselves, trying to make Jesus neater, more systematic and digestible.
After two millennia of spiritual devotion and more than two centuries of modern critical research, we still cannot fit Jesus into a box. He is destined to stretch our imaginations, confront our beliefs, and challenge our lifestyles for many years to come.
In A Doubter's Guide to Jesus listeners will find themselves both disturbed and intrigued by the images of Jesus found in the first sources.

I enjoyed the book so much I listened to it back to back
I have listened to dozens upon dozens of audiobooks on audible and this is the first time I’ve felt compelled to write a review.
As a lover of history I enjoyed learning how the early christians, contemporary jews and romans saw the most important person in human history. As an Australian I appreciated the Australian references made throughout. As a Christian I appreciated the call to emulate Christ in his servitude, love for the oppressed and desire to improve the lives of those around us.

A concise, informative and engaging book
Easy to listen too, especially regarding the content. It made me smile when Dickson stated scholarship is on a continuum from skeptical to mainstream to apologetics and this book isn't even on the spectrum =)
It would be good if audible could add chapter titles, they should be:
1 Intro
2 IMAGININGS: Making Jesus in Our Image
3 SOURCES: How We Know What We Know About Jesus
4 TEACHER: His Words and Their Impact
5 HEALER: The Deeds That Baffle
6 ISRAEL: A Nation on His Shoulders
7 CHRIST: More Than a Surname
8 JUDGE: His Pledge to Bring Justice
9 FRIEND: The Scandal of His Social Life
10 TEMPLE: The Relocation of God’s Presence
11 SAVIOUR: The Meaning of His Death
12 ADAM: The Promise of His Resurrection
13 CAESAR: His Subversion of an Empire
14 GOD: His Oneness with the Almighty
15 SERVANT: His Preference for the Lowly
16 Epilogue: Portrait of a Follower of Jesus

Packed with Truth & Information
This book is packed with truth and information, and it's thorough in its citations. It can be a tad dry at times given its somewhat academic nature, but it's well worth the read.

Informative, as hoped for
Whilst this book is truly fascinating and informative to an accessible degree, the narrator certainly lets the team down with very crucial mispronunciations; from historical figures to locations. For me as a listener, this was distracting.
Otherwise a great book and worthwhile for anyone wanting the history of Jesus and the New Testament.

Buy the book
I find the delivery almost impossible and it just confirms to me how reading is different from listening - for example, I would gloss over/speed read all the references in normal life, but you have to listen to them on Audible. Sorry, it just doesn't work for me. BUT I do want to buy the book as I enjoy John Dickson's works.
