About this listen

What do you get when you cross a cursed bookshop, three hot fictional men, and a punk rock heroine nursing a broken heart?

After being fired from her fashion internship in New York City, Mina Wilde decides it's time to reevaluate her life. She returns to the quaint English village where she grew up to take a job at the local bookshop, hoping that being surrounded by great literature will help her heal from a devastating blow.

But Mina soon discovers her life is stranger than fiction - a mysterious curse on the bookshop brings fictional characters to life in lust-worthy bodies. Mina finds herself babysitting Poe's raven, making hot dogs for Heathcliff, and getting IT help from James Moriarty, all while trying not to fall for the three broken men who should only exist within her imagination.

When Mina's ex-best friend shows up dead with a knife in her back, she's the chief suspect. She'll have to solve the murder if she wants to clear her name. Will her fictional boyfriends be able to keep her out of prison?

Contains mature themes.

It's dark and sexy and funny and witty. I can't say I was overly surprised by the final reveal but it was worth it for everything leading up to it.
You could almost describe this as an erotic cosy paranormal mystery. And I have decided it's my favourite genre ever!

Everything about this book!

Great start to the series. I loved all the characters from the moody Heathcliff, the flirty Moriarty, quiet Qarth to the determined Mina. So many mysteries to unravel, not just the murder of Minas ex best friend.

Favourite line - 'the resident Bernard Black', this line had me laughing so loud. I love the tv show Black Books & immediately Heathcliff reminded me of Bernard Black. Can't wait to see how the chemistry between Mina & all the guys develops.

Reminds me of a racy cozy mystery

Format: Audiobook.—— Main characters: Mina Wild, Heathcliff, James Moriarty (Morrie), and Quoth.—— This story will suit readers who enjoy heartfelt, character-driven fiction with humour, mystery, and light paranormal elements.—— At its heart, this is about a young woman adjusting to the loss of the future she had planned. Mina moves back home and takes a job at the bookshop she adored as a child, run by Heathcliff named after the man of Wuthering Heights fame.—— The pacing leans slow to medium, which suits the comforting tone. Most of the story unfolds inside the bookshop, creating an intimate and immersive setting. —— What held my attention most was the banter between Mina, Heathcliff, and Morrie, alongside the quiet mystery surrounding the shop.—— The characters felt fresh and vivid. I became emotionally attached quickly, especially to Mina. Her experience with impending blindness was handled thoughtfully and respectfully, and her growth felt genuine. —— What stayed with me most was the way the characters supported and challenged one another as their relationships evolved.—— Gabrielle Baker’s narration was engaging and distinct. She created clear character voices and deepened the listening experience. I would listen to her narration again and I would absolutely choose this format again for this book.—— I’m glad I listened to this and would happily continue the series.
