Publisher's Summary

Miss Marple meets Oscar Wilde in this series of cosy mysteries set in the picturesque Cotswolds village of Bunburry.

There is shock in the local high school when Alison Shaw, a young, dynamic chemistry teacher, goes into a coma after being struck by a falling smart board. But is it an unfortunate accident or something more sinister? When the headteacher asks amateur sleuth Alfie McAlister to investigate, Alfie enlists the help of Liz and Marge, his fellow members of the Bunburry Triangle. And Noah, a pupil at the school and an aspiring detective, is also determined to help the investigation. As they delve deeper, they encounter an alarming number of possible suspects. Will they uncover the truth behind the dangerous events unfolding at the school?

Nathaniel Parker, born in 1962, graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art and went on to join the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television career began in 1988 when he played Flying Officer 'Flash' Gordon in the LWT mini-series Piece of Cake. He is also the lead in the BBC series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, based on the novels by Elizabeth George. Nathaniel Parker has an extensive list of audio books to his credit, ranging from the classics of Charles Dickens and Thomas Hardy to more modern writings and children's books.

A weird, one-off miss for me

I have all the books from this series and really like them. If you have too, then you have come to know what to expect from the story lines and each character. Seventeen books in, you sort of feel like an honorary member of the Bunburry community. You know how the characters will react in certain situations, the dynamics of the relationships between the characters, etc. In this book, however, none of the characters acted as they usually do. Not in terms of their interactions with each other, not in terms of their responses to circumstances around them (ie. the "mystery"). Over the three hours of the book, none of the characters seemed really to be together, somehow. The book seemed to have no particular story line. The mystery, which is usually the centerpiece of the story and the thing upon which everything and everyone focuses, is inconsequential.

Oh, and the whole Alphie/Emma thing was, for me, one cringey bit after another. Like two siblings or cousins dating. I just ... can't. Hope that something comes along to fling that situation into a different orbit.

No mystery here

Hopefully, this will settle the romance aspect of the Bunburry Triangle, and we can get with to actual mysteries. The previous episodes were mildly amusing regarding Alfie and Emma, but I felt like this edition was way over the top and not amusing. I will try the next one, but if it is like this it will be the last.

Disappointed

I have listen to each and everyone of the books of this series and this was the most disappointing one. The story was swallow and there were few clues to allow the listen to come along with the discovery. The ending was even more disappointing as we grabs Liam before a word is exchanged. I fill this book was only made to get the romance story told and not the mystery. I know the books don’t cost a lot but is one wasn’t worth it. As always the performance was great but the material lacked.

Delightful

I love, love, love this series. It's old fashioned, yet timely. Bunburry is quirky, and cozy. You just want to move right in!

No mystery this time!

I love this series I have listened to all of them and some twice! But this was a snooze fest! It was just Alfie and Emma getting together and the weakest mystery ever! I figured it out wya before the end. I hope the next one is better because I listen for the mystery not the love story.

Good Story

I thought the story was good. I like a story that continues with the same characters lives without too much drama. I did not think it was a great mystery though, it was lacking in that respect for me. I also wish Alfie would stop being afraid to talk with Emma, like the author is setting up the characters for failure. It's not adding any suspense or good tension, just annoying this reader.

Super short mystery

I love the characters and I’m so happy for Alfie. The mystery didn’t really start until the 2/3s of the way through though and it wrapped up very quickly.

A bit of a let down

I was really excited to see a new episode but the mystery was very much a side issue. The series is classed as a Cosy Mystery but whilst it had potential the romance was dominant and the ending probably the most rushed I have ever encountered. If I wanted romance, I would use that section to find titles. I can only hope normal service is resumed in the next title.
