Publisher's Summary

"The sexy, action-packed first dramatized audiobook adaptation in the #1 New York Times bestselling Court of Thorns and Roses series from Sarah J. Maas. Adapted from the novel and produced with a full cast of actors, immersive sound effects and cinematic music!

When nineteen-year-old huntress Feyre kills a wolf in the woods, a terrifying creature arrives to demand retribution. Dragged to a treacherous magical land she knows about only from legends, Feyre discovers that her captor is not truly a beast, but one of the lethal, immortal faeries who once ruled her world.

At least, he's not a beast all the time.

As she adapts to her new home, her feelings for the faerie, Tamlin, transform from icy hostility into a fiery passion that burns through every lie she's been told about the beautiful, dangerous world of the Fae. But something is not right in the faerie lands. An ancient, wicked shadow is growing, and Feyre must find a way to stop it, or doom Tamlin-and his world-forever.

From bestselling author Sarah J. Maas comes a seductive, breathtaking series that blends romance, adventure, and faerie lore into an unforgettable listen.

Kramer, Gabriel Michael, Natalie Van Sistine, Debi Tinsley, Bradley Foster Smith, Alejandro Ruiz, Christopher Graybill, Julie Hoverson, Karenna Foley, Eric Messner, Anthony Palmini, Steve Wannall, Rose Elizabeth Supan, Mort Shelby, Laura C. Unbearable

I loved the other series from this Author but this story seems more like a really bad romance novel. In addition, the narration of the lead female protagonist in this dramatized version was just awful. Too breathy.

Also do we really need a description of the lead male proganist's back muscles every time he leaves the room?

I really wanted to enjoy and tried to listen but couldnt get past 20 minutes at a time. In the end I just gave up.

Not for me. Waste of a cedit.

Full first book review

3.5 ⭐️

I really really enjoyed this story, and finished it so fast - I had to know what happened! I hadn’t really read into the hype about this book, only had a few friends recommend it but without many details. I also haven’t read much in the fantasy genre, but I really enjoyed this, the descriptions of the world were great and I felt like I could really see and understand it. Anyway immediately it was giving Beauty & The Beast vibes, and I’ve since read that in heaps of reviews, so perhaps that’s intentional by the author? I liked this take on it!

Most of the time I really enjoyed how descriptive the writing is, however other times it was just bad. There were quite a few times a descriptive phrase was used that stood out so much because of how weird it was. Eg. “my bowels turned watery” - what? This was in there three times! If it was once I might have been able to overlook it, but I’m deducting a whole star just for that one phrase being repeated so many times.

I really liked the characters, with only Nesta being a bit unrealistic in the way she changed in the story. Rhysand also wasn’t my favourite, is he good, is he bad? I guess I will find out in the later books, but what he did in this one was so inappropriate and unnecessary to the plot that it’s going to be hard to look past that, whatever the later books bring.

I really liked Feyre as a main character and narrator. She wasn’t perfect, and at times was too dumb in her actions/decisions, but it was in a way that felt real. I think she was well written.

The main villain felt a bit shallow in their character building, but it wasn’t enough to make me dislike the story.

Overall I really enjoyed the book, the stars I deducted for the few things I’ve mentioned above didn’t really impact how I enjoyed it, and how much I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

Audiobook comment: I listened to the graphic audiobook, and I really enjoyed having different voices for the different characters. The narrators are all top notch, really liked their voices. There were times where if you listened too closely to the background noises they didn’t quite suit what was happening/being said perfectly, but when left in the background it was pretty cool. Background music was great and always suited in my opinion. A few times when a character was further away and speaking or having a hushed conversation they gave it that effect but it meant it was quieter and harder to hear in comparison to the main narrating, I had to turn it up (or stop washing dishes) to hear those parts. Not too big of a deal though.

An okay story that drags a bit

I enjoyed the concept and basic story but the lead is a bit too whiny for me and for all her supposed intelligence her thinking processes seem quite dumb. I’ll persevere with the second and see if it improves. It drags a bit and is quite repetitive with her thoughts which gets annoying. But the dramatización with all the different voices and sound effects is amazing!!

Abhorrent Writing

This book heavily relies on the reader to extended their imagination to its limits, especially because the author doesn’t bother to describe any of what we’re seeing. When the author exerts themselves to provide a description of events, it’s juvenile and underdeveloped. I would rather have spent my time staring blankly at a wall, or working a meaningless job in a Call Center scamming the elderly.

The male voices have no empathy

The male voices always sound so robotic and aggressive and lack any depth of any other emotion. It’s such a shame because it makes the characters sound very condescending

Terrible

Definitely will not be purchasing the second half. Don’t know what the hype was about at all. After reading Fourth wing this was recommended. Definitely not the same
