Publisher's Summary

Miss Emma Arlen’s position as a companion never included distracting her mistress’ suitors, but when a handsome Italian ambassador arrives determined to find an English bride, Emma happily takes up the cause.

Emma Arlen has spent a decade as a member of the duke’s family, in the position of companion to his daughter and ward to the duke himself. She would do anything to show her support to the ducal family for their love and kindness. When Lady Elinor begs Emma to distract a most determined Sicilian suitor, she agrees at once. How hard can it be to keep one man entertained for a few weeks?

Luca, the Conte di Atella, left his home in the newly formed Kingdom of the Two Sicilies under the direct orders of King Ferdinand I. Luca’s duty as ambassador to England includes everything from negotiating better trade agreements to strengthening the bonds between the two nations. If possible, by marrying a lady of high birth. When he optimistically sets his sights on Lady Elinor, Miss Arlen consistently disrupts his plans. The more time that passes, the more he realizes he does not mind at all.

Continually in the conte’s company, Emma recognizes in him a spirit of adventure and nobility like she has never witnessed before. When the time comes for him to go, will she be able to part with him and keep her heart intact?

As the second standalone novel in a new series by author Sally Britton, this story continues the Clairvoir Castle romances. This is a light-hearted, romantic series set in the Regency period.

A sweet and heartwarming romantic story!

A Companion for the Count is a sweet and heartwarming romantic story of a kind and gentlemanly Italian count and a loyal and caring companion to a duke’s daughter. It is a lovely and charming story and I truly enjoyed it! I especially loved how we knew that the Count and the Emma would end up together, but the journey to that point was extremely interesting and full of twists and turns before reaching the inevitable happily ever after. With a cast of side characters that includes the hero and heroine of the first book in the series, there is plenty of good humor and entertaining wit to fill out the romantic storyline. I was asked to review the audiobook version of this story, and I have to say that I loved the performance of the narrator. I did find the Italian accent used for the hero and his secretary to be a bit distracting, but it did not take away from the story and I actually got quite used to it in the end. Whether you try the audiobook or the printed book, I highly recommend A Companion for the Count to lovers of sweet and clean romantic stories that warm the heart and transport you to England during the Regency era!

I received a copy of the audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review, and my thoughts are my own. I really did love it!

Fun Regency Story

I really enjoy all the Sally Britton novels I’ve read, this being no exception. Emma was charming, intelligent, and kind and she drew Luca out and turned him into an interesting person as well. I got a sense that they were a good fit for each other by the end of the story.

I read this novel on my kindle app before I listened to the audible version. I had a hard time getting in to the story on audible because I was only able to listen for short bursts at a time. It occurs to me that I listen like I read, obsessively. Once I actually got started, I didn’t want to stop listening, even though I had already read the story. The performance was great and I loved listening to the spoken Italian, though the accent took some time for me to be comfortable with. She did a great job of differentiating voices which made it easy to keep track of dialogue.

Sweet second book

My favorite scenes are Luca and Emma making pasta from scratch in the kitchen, the discussions between the two on politics and government, and then when each realize their feelings for the other and trying to hide them because “he/she loves another.”

This was a sweet story about two unknowing individuals who fall in love with each other, even though they were suppose to fall for other people.

It’s cute and sweet, and you just need to go read it!

The narrator did a fabulous job with this audiobook! I think I enjoyed it more because of her inflections that added more authenticity to Luca’s Italian heritage.

A Sweet Regency

Do you ever read a book and a certain scene just has all the feels??? Ya girl there's a scene in this book in front of the magnolia tree and it's not even a first kiss. *Le sigh* So many emotions, so many things unsaid, so much confusion. Just beautifully written.

Since I listened to it through an audiobook, Luca sounded like a sexy vampire. I am not complaining except there were no vampires. ( Listen I have a vivid imagination and it gets away from me sometimes.) He is so sweet and he has the ability to make conversation over pasta instructions.

Emma is just a great friend and a wonderful person. I adore the connection she developed with the count.

Just a delightful afterglow after listening to this one.

Thank you Sally for the ability to listen to the audiobook.

Fabulous regency romance with excellent narrator!

Excellent! This is perfect clean regency romance. Kisses and attraction but nothing I couldn't share with my teenage daughter, and the romance is so beautifully paced. It's such a well done story that I had no idea this was the middle of a trilogy of books sharing a setting in the Clairvoir Castle. My daughter has begged me to go back and buy the first one so she can listen to it as well.

I'm a big audible listener and this narrator was excellent. She did accents and voices with such personality that I was never confused about who was speaking, which can be a big issue. Here, it was excellent enough that I'm actively seeking out other stories she's narrated.

If you like regency and kisses and perfect narration, this is absolutely worth your ears.

This was a sweet story. I loved how Emma isn’t your typical heroine. I liked how this series about those who are in the background in life. I enjoyed this book and look forward to other books in the series.

Another brilliant book by Sally Britton!

This is the 2nd book in the Clairvoir Castle Romance series. I thoroughly enjoyed this book! Sally's books are always very well researched and I come away wanting to know more about the events surrounding the story and time period. This one was no exception. It takes place in Regency England and one of the main characters is from the newly formed Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.
I loved Emma's Character, she was so strong, smart and kind-hearted. Luca, the Conte di Atella is just good to his core. He's kind and wants to do good in the world.
The narrator does a fantastic job of altering each voice so that it is distinct and fits the personality of the character.
I enjoyed listening to this book every bit as much as I enjoyed reading it!

Clairvoir Castle delivers another lovely romance

A Companion for the Count was a wonderfully well written story. The main characters were so fun to get to know. I appreciated the addition of a character from a place not often included in regency romance. I had a hard time turning this book off, I was too excited to hear what was coming next. The narration on this book is very good. I have listened to quite a few of the books by this narrator and she never ceases to surprise me with her skill and talents, A Companion for the Count is no exception, the narration adds depth and charm. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys clean regency romance books. Additionally while this book is the second of the series it can be enjoyed on its own. However anyone who has read the first book will enjoy the updates on Mr. Gardiner and his bride from the first book.
